Thanks a lot, low range off road crew. A simple mechanic like me with basic skills can see this video and do it by himself. Very clear, precise, and informative presentation. May God bless you all. 🙏

Great instruction vid, clear and concise. Can I add something? For all you Loctite users, whenever you use a threadlocker in a blind hole - e.g. crankshaft and camshaft end bolts, always put your product inside the hole, and not just on the bolt. Think about it - as you wind your bolt in the air inside must escape somehow. As it does so, it blows out all of your threadlocker which compromises your joint. I see this often in vids on KZbin, and having spent 20 years as a Loctite trainer, I've spent many hours educating others on this issue.

Top Video mate! Here in Australia we call the Suzuki Sidekick, Suzuki Vitara. I have a 1995 1.6 Suzuki Vitara ( USA Sidekick) and watching your tutorial My water pump packed up so I ended up buying a Water Pump/Timing kit, so might as well replace that too. Thumbs up!

+Crystal Jones Yes, the 1990 Geo Tracker is the same vehicle as the Suzuki Sidekick. It has the 1.6L 8 valve engine which is basically the same engine as the 1.3L Suzuki Samurai engine shown in our engine rebuild series. Our video's should be very helpful in coaching you through an engine rebuild. I bought a 92 motor that was a new crate motor with flat top pistons. It cracked two pistons so when I tore it down and miked everything it was like new except for one thing, thrust washers. The crank was evidently a rebuilt one that they faced off the crank where the thrust washers ran slightly. The crank had .010 end play which caused the pistons to crack the skirts and was wearing the rod bearings on each side. When I tried to find over size thrust washers in the USA there weren't any. So seeing that the thrust washers were steel I used my arc welder to tack back of a washer all over then ground it down to thickness I needed. So far it has run like a watch. Oh yeah, I hate chrome rings!

Camshaft pulley is just the same as in your video but you alligned the mark and said that you are on TDC of cylinder 4. In my case as i have 3 cylinder engine but cam pulley is same as yours one, So which mark should i allign on TDC of cylinder 1. Plz reply

Is the valve adjustment tutorial similar to all engines or may vary depending on the manufacturer's specs?
@lowrangeoffroad17 жыл бұрын
The valve clearance spec varies from engine to engine. As does the method of adjustment. I'd definitely use the engine manufacturer instructions when adjusting valves.

I always wonder if many mechanics are as careful? In all my years I have seen SO many butchers masquerading as mechanics. :) Hated doing rocker arm adjustments, they can send a set of feeler gauges to an early grave. :) (Some rockers require setting when engine is running)
