If you look close, as sun the motor is disasembled...the picture turn's backwards! Is the same motor before being disasembled! 😉😏

A very easy engine to work on

Nice job, that is a big old lump of an engine especially compared to my KTM500 !

Jag kollade kamkedjan på hösten innan jag ställde in bågen för vintern. Ett nytt stag vid förgasarna svetsade en kompis och jag monterade. Annars rullade det bara på

Nice video but what was the noise in the background? Sounded like somebody having an epileptic fit in a scrapyard.

Nice job man . Just curious, what would be the approximate cost for this job assuming all parts are not that bad. 🤔

Do you use all the proper torque settings and everything from the manual? Or just "feel" your way there?
@Mike_abel3 жыл бұрын
The short answer is yes I use a torque wrench! All important bolts, will be torqued, it’s the only way to truly do a job right, if you see someone ‘feeling’ a head bolt especially, walk away... the bolts to feel in are things like side cases and covers.

How fast can a novice rebuild an engine, assuming I have all the parts?

Very nice video 👍, going to ask an obvious question but after changing oil on my gl500 I noticed a fuel smell in the new oil after 2 miles and standing behind the bike the right cylinder has considerately less exhaust output than the left side. To me that sounds like rings but with your rebuild experience what would be your guess based on that info? Any help would be greatly appreciated 👍
@Mike_abel3 жыл бұрын
Get a cylinder leakage test done on the bike, if you have a ring issue you will get leakage into the crank case.
@jasontaylor33183 жыл бұрын
@@Mike_abel definitely will do! Im really hoping for it to not be the rings, I've heard they are difficult to locate a new set and I currently don't have the space to tear apart and rebuild

The “rebuild” looked to be the teardown video played in reverse. Lame.

HEY THAT'S NOT FAIR, you sped it up at the end so it will take longer than 5 minutes.

Hey aehy'm no mechanic or nothing but aehy can tell you how you'll need to rebuild your "Dear Old Maggot" CX500 simply use a type7 diamond tip drill bit in a 5000w drill and make holes everywhere in said engine, why Dear Old Maggot? When you see a maggot try turning corners quickly it falls over, hey don't forget to get the stator rewound when you get a CX500 that variable capacitor is factory rated for 1250w but pumps 1340w you need to go from 14ge to 18ge wire, happy riding keep upright.
@jasonmorris8583 жыл бұрын
For that stator rewind go see an armature rewind specialist, basically an Electrical Engineer who does the coiling of solid wire on spindles for electric motors, you can do it yourself there's a side cover around 14cm diameter almost directly under just to the right of the left engine barrel then 2 wires pop it out get said rewind in solid loop 18gauge and hook kit up and no mystery electric problems in the middle of nowhere.
