The thought of messing with a carburetors terrifies me! I knew my carb was bad. I watched your video, bought one of your rebuild kits, and then chickened out. I bought a super cheap reproduction carb instead. Problem solved? Nope. Cheap carb stopped doing its thing after about an hour of use. I realized my choices were to abandon my tractor, buy a real rebuilt 9N carb, or try rebuilding mine. Despite my fear, I dug out the kit I bought from you, re-watched your video and went to work. After only a few minutes at the workbench, my fear turned to enjoyment! I was actually having fun! I realized it wasn't remotely as complicated as I thought, it was more like working on a small puzzle. I took my time and was very impressed - your video was exactly right. I still wasn't impressed my tractor would start, but... it did! I was even inspired to adjust the jets as you showed - fantastic! Thank you so much for these videos. You have given me a great deal of confidence. Bonus points to the production/editing of your videos, they are detailed without being too long.

Thanks for the video. Our 8N was only running on choke. I removed the carburetor and it was obvious right away the spring on the choke plate was broken. I removed the bowl and gave it a quick clean up and it runs great now. The air filter tube is the biggest challenge in my experience. I'll order your kit and rebuild the whole thing when I get around to it. Who would have thought this old tractor would still be doing work 70 years later.

This video really helped me double check and trouble shoot my MS carb... my tractor wouldnt start and stay running without choke yesterday now its running decent thank you so much. I STRESS THAT COMPRESSED AIR BE USED TO BLOW EVERY SMALL ORFICE OUT...if not it wont fuel properly also a torch tip cleaner is your friend. Something Ive seen no one cover on youtube. Like she said 2 turns on main screw not 1.5 funny thing my 2n and her machine run at 2.5 turns on main And 1 to 1 and quarter (1.25 turns) on the idle screw and Learn the details folks... theres plenty of misinformation out there.

I have an 8N, and the carb needed to be rebuilt; bought a kit and tried doing it myself, but had trouble with the throttle butterfly plate...ended up breaking the spring, and just bought a whole new carb. The butterfly shown in this video looks much easier to install; I'll keep this in mind for next time.

When you look at the choke plate in the video at the beginning it is facing the opposite direction when you reinstall it. Installing it with the flap in would allow the engine to get some much needed air and the spring would control the flow

Great videos, Rachel. Please check at 11:40 to 12:20 in this video. I think you may have the choke butterfly door backwards. My original 8N (with a M-S TSX 241B carb), three other video presentations and what looks like a Ford manual drawing has the little trap door on the inside. After seeing yours, I thought it may provide relief to a backfire but after checking more, it seems that it is rather supposed to let air in when vacuum is momentarily high but choke is full on. That would put the door on inside...like in my tractor and the other references. I may be wrong, but would like to confirm. Thanks and keep it up!

Rachel, thanks for the videos! Awesome job. I am rebuilding my MS Carb and have watched your video so many times to ensure I do it correctly. I did have two questions though. I noticed that you flipped the choke door from the position it came out. The flat side was facing out before you tore it down, and when you reassembled, you put the spring side facing outward. It must not have mattered because your tractor started. Also, you showed the 3 jets in the video, but, you did not talk about the 3d jet that goes in the side in the throttle body (close to the other jet). Am I correct to think that you were working on a "B" MS Carb? We love professional videos. There are many videos on KZbin, but, hate the ones that just show people doing something without explaining what they are doing and are on fast speed...useless. Thanks and have a great day!

The only thing I would add is check the flatness of the top flange, many of them are warped from over tightening. I gave mine a ride on some 220 wet/dry paper and a surface that is known to be flat. I did the same on the bowl and top but there was nothing much wrong that the gasket would not have sealed. The top flange on mine was warped pretty bad to the point I felt it would leak air.

Do you have an instruction video on how to adjust an aftermarket carb float. Tractor dying when driving on incline only. All filters cleaned, tank cleaned, lines flushed, breather cleaned, tank cap breather good, runs perfect on flat surface. I'm perplexed. My dilemma is that I'm 3 1/2 hours from tractor where it's broke down at another marketplace sellers home. Any help you can advise would be appreciated.

Question. Bought an Amazon 8n carb. It worked great for a year. Then one day slowly lost power over a period of 10 minutes. Now it only runs with the choke on and at lowest throttle. Try to increase it dies. Carb is spotless. Good fuel. Runs with starting fluid. Pulled out drain plug in float bowl and fuel flows good. Sprayed starting fluid around to check for leaks and no change in speed. Buying a new carb since it’s the only thing I can think of. Something is plugged in the carb but all jets are spotless. Uff da….

Hey Rachel this John nice to meet you. I work at Bell Equipment Im new to your channel . I was watching your video and I was wondering if Im doing something wrong I didn't replace the float even thou it's pretty green I cleaned it up some but prolly not enuff I set the idle and the throttle . the big one 2 full turns and the idle one full turn out to start like you said and I could get it to fire and run a little . but when i first swapped the motor it was driving and running . it kinda progressively ran rougher till I cleaned the carb then it started to smell better when it ran a little but i can't seem to get it quite right. Its not wanting to take off and idle. I love to buy a preset carb from you or invite you out to the shop to help me with this one. Your very beautiful and insightful .

Hey Girl!! Need your help ❤ I have a 53 Jubilee and I can't get it started. 1st of all, it has always fired right up. Even after a cold winter in the elements. Then the front "bracket" that the loader pin sits in got stripped. I replaced that, so it's tight and spinning now. However, it ran for a min and then won't turn over. It tries but can't kick on. I smell fuel, so I've been told it's flooded.

Great video but I have a couple questions. At 11:44 you say that the spring of the flap on the choke butterfly will face out when it is installed. But the spring and flap look like they are facing inside at 1:42 during disassembly. And I don't see how the spring loaded flap will work if it is facing out. I'm in the process of rebuilding a carb using your comprehensive kit and the and was hoping you could clear this up for me because my carb was already completely disassembled when I got it and the paper instructions do not address this. Also, there are several small gaskets that are about the same size but different colors (one is thin & red, while 1 is thicker and grey) but the paper instructions do not make it clear which gasket goes where.

Question: I'm rebuilding a TSX 241B, there does not appear to be a "passageway" (jet?) under the emulsion tube (there is a plug in the vicinity in the bottom of bowl). Is there suppose to be something between the emulsion tube and the plug on the TSX 241B? Once the carb is done I'm ready to tackle the hydraulic in the top lid.
