How to Rebuild Boat Compartment Lids | Project Boat Restoration Part 9

My Ranger project boats, compartment lids needed some love. The carpet was worn out, some of the lids have soft spots or were were warped. Captain Chip help me rebuild them. We tried to gel coat them to finish them but we realized we were way over our head and had to come up with plan B

How thick of plywood did you use?

You want it thick enough to fill the void area with epoxy all the way around. Will be different for each boat

So it's been a year and a half. How are these lids still holding up? I am about to do this myself

All good. Friends that have done them say it will last the remainder of the boats life if done correctly. Wood.makes them heavier and you can use foam too, but it will require a little more work

@@Bigwaterfishing thought of foam but feels like that could just lead back to the same issue down the road. Gonna try this method and if I don't like it I'll just get them all made in aluminum
