I just rebuilt my PC800 master brake cylinder and learned the hard way not to reuse the washers on the banjo bolt. They are crushable washers that can’t be reused. Always replace them with new ones. Otherwise, great video.

For people wondering how to get the cylinder out (he moves off camera when he gets it out), i used an air compressor to blow the cylinder out since it was stuck. Just be careful because the brake fluid aerosolizes when you do this, and can spray you EVERYWHERE. wear a respirator and some eye protection.

So I just removed the slave cylinder on my 1992 shadow 1100 after some clutch issues. It was in rough shape. Have a rebuild kit on the way. My only concern is I forgot which way the pushrod seal came out. I know its only one of two ways but id rather not have to do it twice. Its also hard to tell in the video but ive watched several times over now. Does the flat side of the seal go into the piston first leaving the side with the recess facing out that goes onto the pushrod or does the recess side go in the piston first leaving the flat side facing out? Ill be installing tomorrow when the kit arrives.
@ifly8916 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry it took me so long to respond. If I understand what you are talking about, the recess should go in first. Basically the pushrod just needs to seat against the piston.

@@ifly891 I probably didnt explain it as well as I had thought about it in my head haha. But I got it all back together no problem, unfortunatly it didnt fix my clutch issue so I continue to look for the problem.
@ifly8916 жыл бұрын
Ok, I'm glad you got it back together. What is the issue with your clutch?
@berube3616 жыл бұрын
@@ifly891 The clutch lever is very stiff to pull. Sometimes so stiff you cant pull it to the grip, other times you can squeeze it hard enough to touch the grip but because of this its not engaging/disengaging the clutch. If I put it into gear the bike will roll as if its in nuetral. The bike was riding so im not sure what happened. Clutch wasnt slipping so I dont believe it to be the actual clutch. But the slave is rebuilt and all new fluid. And the master seems to be okay but I didnt rebuild it, just cleaned it thoroughly.
@ifly8916 жыл бұрын
@@berube361 have you checked the lifter plate for the friction disks? Also, I would take the banjo bolt off the master cylinder then with fluid in the reservoir, pull the lever and keep your finger over the openning to see how it moves and if it pushes fluid out. If it doesn't, then the problem is the master, if it does, the problem is downstream. Hope that helps. Also, I have a video on how to rebuild the brake master and it's basically the same as the clutch.

I'm having a bad oil leak from the slave cylinder. The gaskets on the slave cylinder itself are ate up but when I move the push rod just a little bit, oil pours out. Is there a seal behind the push rod or does the seal on the slave cylinder handle that?
@ifly8917 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. I believe that the push rod seal on the slave cylinder is the only seal but I am not 100%.

@@codycook1345 hi, I'm not sure if you have fixed your problem yet but I thought I would let you know that there is a pushrod seal that is more internal. If that goes out, it will pour oil out around the slave cylinder.

@@ifly891 I did get it figured out and it did turn out to be the internal seal. Haven't had oil leak since. Although I did lay it down a month ago so I'm mending a broke knee and now have handle bars, crash bars, and risers to replace. Just cosmetics

Helpful. What would the symptoms of the bike be of a slave cylinder not returning because the piston was stuck?
@ifly8915 жыл бұрын
Is the clutch disengaging when you pull the clutch handle?
@McLeodQuinn5 жыл бұрын
T R Barton - my bike acts like the clutch lever is pulled in all the time, even though it’s not. I can put it in gear and “dump the clutch” and it doesn’t die. Also no power to the rear wheel. Again - like the clutch lever is pulled in when it isn’t.
@ifly8915 жыл бұрын
@@McLeodQuinn does the the gear engage at all?
@McLeodQuinn5 жыл бұрын
T R Barton - yes. When I put the bike up on the center stand - I can click it into gear and the gears move with the rear wheel. Seems to just be the clutch - not the transmission.
@ifly8915 жыл бұрын
@@McLeodQuinn so if it is not fully engaging, it could either be something in the friction plate assembly or possibly an issue with the master cylinder. You can check to make sure the master cylinder is working properly by taking the banjo bolt off that connects the fluid line to the master cylinder and then with fluid in the reservoir, pump the handle with your finger over the openning to make sure it is send fluid to the slave cylinder. I had to do this once because a seal in the master cylinder was not seated correctly. If that is not the problem, hook it back up and make sure to bleed the line. If that doesn't work, it might be the friction plates. I have another video where I replace them. Ultimately there are 3 main failure points on the hydraulic clutch: master cylinder, slave cylinder or clutch assembly. Hope that helps!

@@scottysequichie9725 I had a leak coming around that area and it ended up being a small rubber gasket around the clutch pushrod.
