Really appreciate this video, especially the part of putting the pawls/springs back into the hub correctly. You bailed me out the night before a GCQ race, working on my Niece's bike, the rear hub came apart, had no idea what to do until I came across your great video. Been meaning to post something, finally got around to it. Thanks Again!!

Everything in this video is spot on! Try using a hammer that has weight, a Parktool HMR-4 with a plastic mallet is actually perfect for getting the job done without damage to components.

A dead blow hammer is far superior to any other hammer for working on bikes. I got one and it makes everything so much easier and it doesn’t damage anything
@Brant_Moore
@Brant_Moore 4 жыл бұрын
Can you explain what that is for me? I haven't heard of it before but that sounds really intriguing
@connersmith4104
@connersmith4104 4 жыл бұрын
Dead blow hammers have metal pellets inside that move around and when the hammer hits something, all the pellets go forward and create a dead blow. This allows the hammer to impact and not bounce back like a rubber mallet. If that doesn’t make sense there is quit a few good videos on how they work
@Brant_Moore

You can use the axle it's self to seat the driver side bearing into the shell. Once the bearing is seated just pull the axle out, flip it around, install from the non driver side, reinstall and tighten hardware.

@Brant_Moore
@Brant_Moore 6 жыл бұрын
I would very much doubt it, unless you have access to a machinist who can make the shell fit a sealed bearing. But even then the chances of it working are pretty slim. You’d be better off finding a used hub. I’ve seen used profile hubs sell for 40$ before

No grease on profile or Madera drivers. They’re designed to be used without. The only thing that could be done is a tiny dab of clear oil in the pockets where the pawls sit. Hope this helps enough to earn your subscription

Great vid. I'm a dinosaur though, on my singlespeed DMR I still run a thread on freewheel. When the ratchet track eventually wears out I just unscrew it and screw a new one on. I get a long way out of my ACS freewheels as I strip and rebuild them once a year though I wonder what happens when the ratchet ring on a cassette hub wears? Can you get replacements? Can you fit them yourself? I learned a lot about cassette hub through this vid as I've never really tackled one. I had an Odyssey Hazzard cassette on my Standard Cashius back when 39/14 was the thing (showing my age again) but never needed to open it up.

Not in profile/madera rear hubs. They are designed to function dry. If you use anything, it should only be a tiny amount of clear oil on the pocket where the pawl sits so that it can move freely. Here is an article on their site that mentions it. www.profileracing.com/tech-tip-22-a-clean-hub-is-a-happy-hub/ Hope it helps enough to earn your subscription
