Really enjoyed the video! I can tell you from personal experience. Those predator generators are fantastic. I bought a 5500/6500 from Harbor freight way back in 2016. Because a major hurricane was coming to Florida where I used to live. I have that generator to this day and the only thing I’ve ever done is change the oil a couple times. It’s gotten us through two or three hurricanes, many countless power outages in Tennessee And a week without power in Tennessee when that one ice storm came through a couple years ago. I backfeed through a 30 amp breaker and whatever panel I’m feeding and it’ll run everything except for the stove and we usually turn the water heater off. I’ve seen it run for an entire week at a time and I put gas in it while it’s running. I always plug a fan into one of its outlets and let the fan blow through the generator at all times to make sure it stays nice and cool. Anyway, like I said great video definitely a lot of useful information here!

I can also say that it starts up on the first pull 99% of the time and if it doesn’t then the second one, but I can’t recall ever having to pull it more than once. I’ve always ran 5W-30 full synthetic in it and always 93 octane gasoline but I do that with all my stuff. It’s probably had two oil changes other than that. I’ve never even looked at the air filter. It’s just a trooper.

They are one of the rare cases where the clone is almost as good as the real thing if not better. Their basically knock of Honda GX’s for the money I’d buy the predators all day. This one is my neighbors she left it sitting beside the house full of gas. Gas smelled like turpentine. Needle was stuck in the carb. I have a 7000 Dayton with a Honda behind the house in a hut w/ a fan that pulls air thru. I run it once a month for an hour or so. The electric start batteries been dead but it starts first pull so not on my radar atm. It will run everything here except the air compressor. I have to strip the load down to just the hot water heater and pump to take a shower but it will do it. I have a propane stove with pilot lights. The house is heated with a 12v diesel parking lot heater. I don’t know exactly how long it would run without the float charger, but I’d say at least 24hours. The only other big load items would be window units for ac. The way my great grandpa wired this place the garage has a seperate drop from the line. But he did run a circuit from the house to the garage for back feeding purposes. I have a 4500watt and cable set up for the garage. I’m pretty lucky I lose power mostly on Bright sunny days for a few hours. I haven’t had to go a week without. I’ve been looking for a 10k diesel or 10k belt drive head and a 25hp Kohler. I’d like an 1800 rpm set up. It’s been on my build it list for years. So has a generator for the wheel horses. One year the capacitor went bad in the 7000 and it was hot as heck. I brought the house up on a 900 watt 2 stroke. I had to make a jumper w/fuse to bring up both sides of the panel, but I was able to power lights, and the little window unit in my room. You get creative when you need to. Thanks for sharing your generator success story!

@@AbbyNormalGarage yes I also turn everything off except the hot water heater when we are w/o power for long periods. I have a little yellow 3500 W champion generator that I run the pump house with an isolate it from the shop. I’m also eventually going to get a diesel generator something that can easily power the entire house without even flinching. With an automatic transfer switch. But that’s $$$

@@Tennesseemountainhomesteadcrazy money. I’m not so into automatic things. Not even transmissions I’m also kinda holding out for a diesel. My dad has a 150KW onan that will eventually end up here. It’s an overkill, but it sounds so good! He runs the shop and his house on it. Grandpa has big kilns at their house for firing mugs and it doesn’t flinch with any combination. I’ve got a little 2000 inverter generator dad gave me I just need to get. It would be perfect for winter time outages that were long term.

@@AbbyNormalGarage a 150KW would be nice. The automatic transfer switches I’m referring to are probably a couple grand themselves. I’ve installed a lot over the years. They’re great for diesels because you can program them to crank the generator up at any time on a schedule so it doesn’t sit. You can program it to start within a few seconds of power failure or however long a delay you want. You can also program it to run for a certain amount of time after it. Transfers in case the power comes back on and goes back off again it doesn’t keep cycling. or you can completely turn it off and do it all manually at the transfer switch. Most generator companies make their own transfer switch and they are very dependable. Anyway, all that stuff is just a pipe dream because it’s financially unobtainable for me at least. Sometimes the big rental companies will sell their old equipment and I’d be happy to just get a 50 or 60 KW generator/light stand, the little ones you pull behind a truck and set up at events. Those can be wired in for an automatic start as well. I’ve used them on some job sites before. Anyway.!

I hate working on the floor. A workbench would be ideal. Easy to build too.

That’s an idea for the future I’d love one that lifts up. I’m fighting the county to get permission for the business to operate out of here. If that were to get approved. That’s one of many improvements I’d make.
