He really does, every rep looks exactly like the same. Elliot really knows what he's talking about, he helped me fix a hip imbalance I had for years. I went to several specialists and they did nothing. I watched one of his videos and learned how to fix my problem on my own. Good advice always, great form to learn from

Omar Isuf, a man I respect because he has great videos too, shows how much class he has by accepting the remarks from Eliott without feeling embarrassed or schooled. Great two men, giving great advice. I do not give lessons to other people but I do give every one I know with lower back pain the advice to go and go deadlift. I was almost cripple and could not even pick up a piece of paper of the floor (seriously) and after 16 months i could deadlift 160 kilo (about 300 lbs I guess). Someone who wants to deadlift must not look any further; This video is all you need.

ChrischrosBelgium what condition did you have? I used to hit the gym 6 days a week but stopped around 4 years ago since I had a spine injury - herniated disk L4L5 S1. I felt so much energized and good going to the gym and always wonder if I could go back, although the several doctors I consulted were all against it.. Just curious if you had recovered from the same condition man, much love

I had a broken vertebrae. They fused s1 l5 l 4 with 2 rods and 6 screws and 2 laminectomies. 1 year after surgery i started deadlifting only the barbell, and added 5 pounds every week. After 16 months I deadlifted 300 pounds. Current stats, as a 40 year old are: 95 kilo bodyweight, fat percentage 15 % ; squat 5 x 300 pounds, deadlift: 1 x 420 pounds. bench press: 5 x 290 pounds. sprint 100 meters: 13 seconds. if you need some advice, this is my emailadress: sigrist.christian@gmail.com

It doesn`t matter who can deadlift more brother, what I seek always is knowledge, I am a student of strength. You have to check your ego at the door. Louie Simmons, the mastermind behind Westside listens to EVERYONE who gives him advice (stupid or smart) and then he chooses what to absorb (if anything). I am the same way. It was cool seeing how Elliott deadlifts in person and what he had to say! For those that would counter that others deadlift more with different form...there are MANY paths!

Elliot, thanks for all the videos, man. I had some fucked up shoulders--partly due to sports injuries/bone spurs and partly due to never really working on my back. I was always focused on doing presses and standing rows and shit. And then when I started doing deadlifts, I was doing them all wrong with my head up and then I fucked up my neck. Then I came across your channel and worked on my deadlift form and have been doing a lot of bent over rows and chin ups and even have worked on doing front squats and even have swallowed my pride and drastically lowered my normal squat weight to get ass to the grass and then build it all back up. I'm 40 in October and have a toddler and another kid on the way. I got into strength training for myself and also so I'd have the energy to keep up with my spawn! You have four kids. You know what I'm talking about. Anyway, this is a fucking novel, but dude, thanks for all your help (albeit just via video) and keep up the good work, my man!
@rogeriusrex1
@rogeriusrex1 10 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention that I also have incorporated farmer's carries and all that work on my posterior chain has drastically improved my shoulders. I don't have to take ibuprofen just to make it through the day anymore! It really does just go to show that sometimes it's not necessarily a medical issue, it can just be something as simple as working on posture and getting your joints properly aligned. Duh.

I wish everyone would come to this channel and learn how to do exercises correctly. I see so many people complaining about how their back hurts after doing deadlifts, but if you're pulling correctly it shouldn't hurt at all. I think it just comes down to pride, not wanting to drop the weight and correct the form.

Hey Elliot, I just applied this to my deadlift session today and I was very impressed. Short little history about me, about 2-3 years ago I was progressing my deadlift very nicely, worked up to a max of 435lbs while weighing under 200lbs which I thought was fairly decent. Shortly after I started experiencing some stiffness in my left leg, I assumed tight hamstrings since I am prone to pulling them as a result of a football injury. It progressively got worse and worse and I figured out it was sciatica. I went to a chiro and after multiple treatments that weren't helping he sent me for an MRI and it turned out I had a pretty bad herniation in my L5/S1. Determined not to give up, I started doing specific stretches, icing, heating, inversion table, etc. It still bothered me and the only time I felt any relief was when I was working out, I guess because of the adrenalin and intense focus. So I decided to start doing front squats and sumo deadlifts to build up my core. As of this year I am pain free most of the time, it only acts up if I sit on my ass too long and sometimes after intense deadlifts or squats. Although I don't have any pain anymore, my numbers are not close to what they used to be. I don't know if it is entirely strength loss or also a mental barrier I have because I am afraid of getting hurt again? Anyway, I tried your technique today and really focused on bringing my hips back. I was only using 315 but I felt absolutely no unwanted stress in my lower back and finally felt like I was doing the exercise perfectly safe for the first time in my life. Thanks a lot man, keep up the good work.

To all the people of the internet that are out of shape and watching this: Unless you have someone (like Elliott) showing you exactly what you are doing wrong, you are not going to be deadlifting (and squatting, etc.) correctly. PLEASE, do yourself a favor and spend the necessary cash on a personal trainer, even if you can only afford a few sessions. I can speak from personal experience that I thought I was deadlifting correctly for years, and only when I met with a qualified personal trainer did I realize exactly what I was doing wrong. You can watch as many of these videos as you want, but it doesn't beat having someone show you in real time. PEACE
@dre2kule
@dre2kule 9 жыл бұрын
I agree with this, however there is value in video recording yourself deadlift as well...Most people who have incorrect form won't know it until they get a 3rd person perspective or worse, injure themselves...we can research proper form and record ourselves...I have done this and INSTANTLY saw what I was doing wrong...everything is fine up until my initial 25% of the movement where I lock my knees too early...I would have never known if I didn't record myself :)

Good thought except Ive learned way more off KZbin than I would from any personal trainer. 90% of "personal trainers" have no clue what they're talking about. Can get a certification in one weekend. Seen countless dummy personal trainers making their clients do things improperly for one and making their clients do things their body cant physically do because of rigidities. Would never find someone like Elliot Hulse in real life unless you were fortunate enough to stumble upon his gym.
@bananimal45
@bananimal45 9 жыл бұрын
Mike Oxlittle That is sad, but true. I don't think personal trainers are necessary for micromanaging everything in your fitness routine, but instead I meant that personal trainers (good ones) are very valuable when it comes to learning how to complete a compound movement like deadlift, squat, power cleans, etc. KZbin is great as a supplement, but in my opinion everyone who wants to go out and start deadlifting should get a trainer who is qualified. Once you learn how to deadlift correctly, you will notice almost everyone who deadlifts at the gym does so incorrectly, and it is a bit scary.

M. Reed Certain muscles responsible for thoracic and lumbar spinal extension attach to the cervical spine and the base of the skull. When these muscles are activated in a deadlift (which is exactly what you want), they will naturally pull on their attachment points and the neck will extend because of this. If someone "tucks their chin in" when deadlifting, they will not fully utilize these back extensor muscles, leading to a less effective movement.
