Just what I was looking for! Thank you for your clear, thorough instructions, for showing us the process step-by-step and for your time and energy in recording and production. 👍 A word of caution regarding the indicating silica gel. Because of the addition of cobalt chloride, indicating silica gel should not be used in contact with products for consumption such as food or pharmaceuticals. It shouldn't be left around children or pets either.

What Fahrenheit setting the temperature?
@MannixGarage Жыл бұрын
I baked the silica gel at 120 degrees Celsius, I find that temperature is good as it doesn't melt the bags the silica gel comes in. Using an online converter 120C is 248F, thanks for the question. 👍🙂

Hi...I kept my silica jel in the oven and the tissue under the silica was burnt and the silica turned brown...Can I still use it ?
@MannixGarage Жыл бұрын
Hi there, I'm late on comments. For the low price to replace silica gel I would just replace it with new, to be sure it will work. However if you want to keep it, you could always weigh it like I did in the video, overtime check the weight to see if its actually working by soaking up moisture you will see the silica gel packets get heavier. Thanks 🙂

Deep fryer bake setting?

Hi there, I just use a standard oven on bake setting 👍

Interesting (and yeah, loved that Indian!). One quibble: I don't think that scale has the precision to give useful information about the small packets.
@MannixGarage5 ай бұрын
Thanks yeah good old bike that one. Yes possibly right, however its a scale used in the cycle 🚴 industry for weight weenies (not me btw) so can be used to measure weights of very light bolts etc handy when building a lightweight road or XC bike. Thanks for watching, take care 🙂

Can I use a microwave?
@MannixGarage2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, yes you can use a microwave but to be honest I don't know what heat settings or cooking time you will need. I guess if you can weigh the gel like I did you can at least keep an eye on the drying progress as you go along. Also if you have those silica gel metal trays which the beads sit in, don't put them in the microwave when drying. Thanks for the comment 🙂

I always use a microwave oven to recharge my bags of silica. This was the recommended method mentioned in the user manual. I use 4 bags of 1 kg each in my car cabin to get rid of dew and mould. Need to be recharget once a month. Before recharging i weigh it on a kitchen scale to see the exach moisture content. I have made a formula to calculate the time at full power in the microwave oven for a 1 kg bag. 3 minutes to heat the bag up to 100 C. + add 1 minute for each 10 gram. Example: 150 gram of moisture: 3 + (15 x 1) = 18 minutes. Allow the oven to cool down before you insert the next bag. Some microwave ovens may be damaget if overheated. If you overcook the silica bags, they may be damaged. (Sorry for the european units.)
