Silica Gels protect your lenses from moisture that can attract fogs and even worse, fungus. Unfortunately, silica gels saturate rather quickly.
In this video, i will share some steps on how to reheat silica gel to remove the moisture it contains so that it can be reused.
Its so simple to do, and takes only a couple of minutes. And overall, its free.
As far as i know, this method is the fastest to reheat silica gels, since the other methods will take more time and also cost more.
Thanks for watching,

When you don't use an electric oven around 200 F (maybe up to 250 F), you can't control the temperature. Getting them too hot decreases their effectiveness and life span, and drying them too fast causes the beads to crack and crumble. Additionally, the color-indicating chemical in the blue-to-pink silica beads is cobalt chloride, which makes the bead turn back to blue before the whole bead is fully dehydrated. This means you need to keep them warm for some time even after they turn back to blue in order to fully "dry" the bead. Treat them as if they were pure white/clear silica gel beads w/o the added color indicator.

Is dangerous fumes emitted when heating up the silica gel? I wonder if I will be breathing in harmful fumes while heating the silica beads, how far should I stay away while heating? Thanks.

@@jasonl4237 Heating them too hot yes. warming them to wick off the moisture they sucked up? Not so much, You "might" have a plastic smell, maybe, but even then that's running it too hot. low an slow.

@@jasonl4237 Cobalt (II) chloride is toxic and carcinogenic, and was reclassified by the European Union in July 2000 as a toxic material. Better to just go for the clear ones without indicator.

You really shouldn't put any colored Silica Gel in pan that you cook with, but if you do her sure to clean it out with something stronger than dish soap. The color changing pigment crazy be harmful to your health

@@Vanillasky89. Great question. The answer is yes but on a cookie sheet that you're not intending to use for food. Or you can simply use the "orange" variety which is food grade or simply use the clear that doesn't have indicator die. I used basilica packets that has 90% clear with a few of them with the indicator die. And the company that makes him actually suggest you use the oven on the lowest setting.

Hi the gels were actualy shipped within the box when i bought it. If you havent got one, im sure you can use any boxes, as long as they breathe or have tiny holes that allows air to flow. You can also use teabags or tea paper to wrap the gels

"Unfortunately, silica gels saturate rather quickly." Even silica companies say that they could last up to 6 months. But of course that's in a closed container. Outside of it they say it will saturate in about 15 minutes. - So I suggest to expose the boxes with silica as little as possible.

Great video but where did you find that third world kitchen location? (And to all you commenters below who describe my mention of "third world" racist, or otherwise derogatory, shame on you. I meant it the same way as perhaps "rustic" or "basic". I can understand the sensitivity here but please people! I meant no offence. Honestly. But, in answer to Denise who called my comment "rude", I can see that. But I certainly didn't mean to be "rude". And yes, your responses HAVE gotten under my skin. Arrgh!!!).

It was rude, as the commenter above noted but racist? How is it racist exactly? How can describing anything as "third world" be racist in any way? What race exactly is "third world" anyway? I think you should take a few minutes to extract your third-world head from your third-world ass. You moron. Sorry. Third-world moron.
