The days of puncturing cans is over. Now they are all spring loaded valves. This allows you to reuse what's leftover. Your attaching to the low side of the system. Between the orifice and compressor. Some tips: You want to hold the can upside down so the liquid gets drawn into the system. Not the gas. Definitely be careful to not overfill. I typically put just enough so that the vents feel super cold and then stop there. No more. Too much can cause your compressor to struggle and the belt to slip.

yea ive been told to hold upside down, and to not hold upside down, so i go for the slowly shake method lol

I don't think it hurts anything, it's just a lot slower and harder to get the last bit out of the can.
