Ever wanted to record the Acoustic Guitar at home? In this video, I'll show you 2 different ways of recording the acoustic guitar (Direct, & with a Microphone).
Presonus Studio One is a digital audio workstation where we can record music, podcasts, voiceovers, and more! In this video, I'll show you step by step instructions for putting down your first acoustic guitar tracks in Studio One. These concepts are similar for Pro Tools, Logic, and FL Studio users as well.

Can you do a video on how to record a drum cover? I created 2 tracks one for the song to input and the drum track. I'm lost from there.

how do you blend the direct acoustic with mic?

This video was helpful, thanks for making it! Does the same principle apply to recording an electric guitar with a microphone vs direct recording without the mic?

Sure thing! You can use a large diaphragm condenser on guitar amps, but if you’re primarily recording electric I would get an SM57 or SM7B for guitar amp recording. Setting up your tracks in studio one will be the same for Acoustic, Electric, and Vocals. If you are recording Electric Guitar Direct you will want to use some kind of Amp Simulator. Directly recording Electric Guitar sounds brittle and too clean.. I use a guitar pedal from Strymon called the Iridium. It allows me to record Electric Guitar at home with no amps, no mics, and consistently. Presonus makes Amp Simulation plugins but they’re not the best 🫣 I prefer the sound of an amp mic’d up in a room… however it takes more time to get the sound you want.. I would say the sound of amp simulators now a days are much more realistic than direct acoustic guitar recordings. If I had $1000 to chunk at this, I’d get a good audio interface, an amp simulator (Line 6 Helix, Strymon Iridium etc..) and save the mics for later.

@@heychrisgreen Thanks! That makes sense. I just bought a Katana MKII amp, which has a built in audio interface. Looking forward to trying out recording using that. Have also looked into purchasing the Iridium. Just need to hit the lotto :) I’m just getting back into playing guitar after a 20 year hiatus and recording is new to me, so this helps. Thanks again!

So when you have the monitoring off, can you not hear what you are recording through the headphones as youre playing it?

Great question! My audio interface (RME Babyface Pro) has its own software that allows me to monitor through it without latency. Most affordable audio interfaces have this feature as well. I’m using “Direct Monitoring” instead of monitoring through Studio One. Your setup will most likely be different but generally speaking you’ll be hearing a delay if you monitor through Studio One instead of your interface’s own monitoring. Change your buffer settings in the Audio Setup page in studio one if you want to stick to Studio One monitoring. A lower buffer will have less delay but more pops and cracks… a higher buffer will be cleaner audio but more delay

Also in this video I might have been using a UAD interface but the same thing applies.. UAD has software that allows me to hear a direct input signal with no latency
