I use a GL2400. the full sound you can get from bass synthesizers is so much nicer than straight into the daw. even at the same dB you can just see the fullness of the waveform. great mixers.

Great video!! I've gone from analog to digital to ITB and back to analog having used a Soundcraft LX7 24 channel and now a A&H GL2800 32 Channel as I wanted 8 bus. Nothing beats summing through analog and I can still use my rackmounts and Series 500 for further flavoring without plugins that might make the system sluggish or not sound as analog.

Hello Mark. Do you know if it is possible to get a meter bridge for an Allen and Heath GL2400? I have been looking but no luck. Is there a specialty place that sells them?

One question the eq of each Chanel is recorded through the direct out or only is the pre amp ?

Great video. Not many people seem to use ADAT any longer as far as the HD24. I take the direct outs from every channel (24) into a HD24 then you spend all day eqing. You just have the outputs from the HD24 as your line inputs on the desk. I have the RME 32 channel USB interface too so I could go straight into the DAW from the HD24 instead. When you think about it you can go EtoE on the HD24 and pass the DAW output into a 2nd HD24. That is exactly what I do. Once you have eq'd and have the feeds in the digital realm you have cracked it. My AH desk has Firewire also so I can pass the mic inputs straight into the DAW either pre or post EQ. I can then pass the DAW recording back through the desk as each channel has a DAW Firewire Digital input option. You don't need this desk though. You can use a "Live" desk as yoyu are doing. I love the AH desks, They are great. I don't know why more people don't do this. You can't go wrong and you can pick up the desks relatively inexpensively.

I have an A&H 2800-32 and have a question about the using the 8 bus as outs to my 8 channel interface. When I play a signal into the mixer and assign it to an individual bus (let's say group 1, panned hard to L), the audio plays into my interface despite all the bus faders being at 0. I have the 1/4" inserts 1-8 on the back of the master section of the mixer routed into my interface. I would love it so I can control group volume with those bus faders. Any help is appreciated.

try prressing the gp to LR button above the gp pan knobs. so that fader will send volume out of the gp out instead of the LR out

Hey Mark thanks for the video, super helpful. I’m having an issue with not being able to hear playback to each individual fader from outputs. The 1st two outputs (stereo main Left and Right) Play perfect. But none of the other outputs play anything at all. No signal to the mixer. Any ideas? Thanks!

each channel has the function to go to Land R as well as be assigned to the GP channels. Make sure the GP bus channels are up in levels. You should hear outputs from the gp outs from the back.

To sum up the video, if you only have two channels on the interface, send a stereo pair from the board. Boom. Done.

Do your recording on Allen and Heath sound significantly better than your recordings in Harrison Mixbus

I would say it does because the High end Antelope AD DA converters are contributing to the sound quality as well

How do you get your daw to play each track separately on the Allen and Heath console ?
@225maine
@225maine 3 жыл бұрын
XLR cables from your interface to the board, the output from the board back to the input on the interface.
@strictlydubrecords
@strictlydubrecords 2 жыл бұрын
This depends on how much OUTPUTS you have in your audio interface. Each output of your interface goes to Console's input and as a next step you need to configure your channels in your DAW. So that gives you: how much channels/audio signals you want to send to each input in your console.

If I can't get each individual input recorded on its own track then what's the point? I don't want to have to combine inputs simply because of the limitations of an 8 Buss console. I need Direct Outs on every channel so I can manipulate the recorded track later on if need be.
@marksmusicplace3627
@marksmusicplace3627 Жыл бұрын
these consoles do have direct outs if you want to run each channel to a interface or tape machine. the Bus channels are only an option

I am still confused on how one would record 8 , 16, or 24 tracks on the DAW when I only have 2 inputs on my audio interface. Honestly, I listened well, and deep. I own the GL2400 and I guess I lost you when you began to speak about the Matrix. I had the matrix on my board for years and never used it. But I don't understand how it helps me get each individual channel to record on the DAW. Were you just saying that you can use the matrix as another form of output? Do I just need to spring for a 24 channel audio interface? I wondered and remembered that back in the day, when I was 18years old. The engineers at my job would record into a DAT recorder. So I imaging that there is a way to get each chanel to record on its own. There must be a trick that I am missing. I don't want to record all tracks into 2 or 4 tracks. I want to be able to do the mix down at the end in my computer. Plus, I want to be able to record live without doing 10 takes and lapping them over and over on to itself. Was there something that I missed? Was the matrix my solution? Or do I need a larger audio interface. If so, how do the professionals do it? I don't even know of any 48 channel interfaces that exists on the market to record 48 channels hypothetically. In fact, there are very few large audio interfaces that exist, that I know of. I guess my subject might be elementary. I've been using this kind of equipment for about 20 years. Yet, I've always been hung on such a silly part of the hobby. Any advice? I guess from the sort of question that I am asking you wouldn't think that I worked for a love sound company when I was 18. I guess I know a lot about live sound and not so much about recording.

If you want to use the A&H board - which I get, they are nice boards by all accounts, what you'll probably need to do is to get a new interface. Basically, you're looking at $3000 interfaces that can run from a larger mixer like this. Or - if there's an ADAT/optical port on yours - add additional inputs/outputs via an 8 channel ADAT preamp such as the Behringer UltraGain ADA8000 and other similar units. Unlikely you'll be able to do that as very few smaller interfaces can run multiple ADAT preamps so you can get 24 to 48 additional channels. There is a Tascam US-20x20 interface (which can be found but isn't listed as a current product on their site) under $1000 that can take 20 inputs but again you'll need to buy additional actual inputs to get beyond the 8 that are on board. It also has 20 outs if you get the additional adat/optical units. reverb.grsm.io/tascam2020 it would be way easier and not much more money than the Tascam to get something like the SoundCraft 22 MTK-US mixer that is an analogue mixer with multi-track USB interface so you can record up to 16 channels via built in XLR preamps and 6 more with external preamps which don't have to be digital/ADAT. reverb.grsm.io/soundcraftmtk22

@@HardwiredMusicMaker Thank you for responding to my comment. Before I began reading your response, I re-read my own comment and realized that I had a million typos and bad grammar. I apologize for that. My children were in the background driving me nuts as I wrote it. I lost you when you were explaining about the matrix and I guess that was not my solution. The preamps sound really nice on this Allen and Heath so I was in the hopes that I can use it as my recording. What I have been doing in the past is using an old Yamaha VS2480CD in parallel to the board. I would run an insert to each of the 16 lines on the 2480. Allowing me to record each line. Then I would take the 2480 home and record/export each track individually. I felt like it was silly to do it that way. I guess it is silly. Most of my Technology is from around the year 2000. (I used to work for Sam ash when I was a kid) So my knowledge is old and so is my equipment. I guess I should bring my stone-age-ass back up to date. Lol I will probably spring for a better audio interface. Like that the ones that you showed me. I appreciate your advice greatly. Thank you.
