I remember when the Kubiki bass first appeared in the 80’s, I saw Joe Satriani live and his bass player Stu Hamm was using one, he did a slap solo and it sounded pretty amazing, even though I’m not a slap fan. The Steinberger basses were popular too and had a distinct sound. The 80’s was an incredible decade.

Sansamps are still great. I have old Sansamp Bassdriver DI and VT Bass DI. They are wonderful bass amp in the box, pre amp or DI devices. Of course If you dont know what to do they can „color your sound”.

Thanks, i saw the podcast video today and i’m glad to agree with Ian. I’ve been 25 years playing bass but never studied. Just intuitional playing. I did get the discout in scottbasslessons but I had to start one level below Ian did. I started with sight lessons… wow… Ill tell you how it goes … in the shed Thanks you two!!!

Very nice podcast as always… I wonder if you could expand on this subject and cover your session recordings and your experience with various mic preamps. I remember seeing BAE DMP in Scott’s earlier videos, and I believe Ian also have some Neve-inspired preamps like Heritage audio or something similar in his videos… It would be interesting to know your opinion on these…

I am definitely picking up that Roland mixer! I record for instagram and I just figured out how to use what I have. I use a Vox bass headphone amp and an I-Rig2 and some adapters and stuff and it does the same thing as the Roland. I just like that there is a mic input, that’s a game changer.

I haven't been able to get an amp model out of the HX stomp that I've been happy with. The amp sims are meh and if you add a cab, it's muddy meh lol. I haven't tried it much for just effects yet. I'm still getting over the disappointment of the amp models haha. I am at week 30 of my 33 week wait for my Noble DI. I can't wait!

Nobody else did the extender because Kubicki patented it (or at least this specific implementation). Kubicki guards this pretty jealously. You can't buy the part without returning your old one.

Hey guys, I just watched a video from Reina del Cid about a new recording mic/system called Audigo. It connects to your iPhone via Bluetooth and automatically syncs your video with your audio. It comes with a resident video/audio editor app on your iPhone. Basically, you set your iPhone to frame your shot, place the Audigo mic close to the sound source (i.e. you/amp/guitar/vocalist), press start and go for it. Reina says it’s a game changer for her, and I respect her opinion. Since this video is about recording bass and video, I thought that it might be a new tool for bassists to record demos on the cheap, ($240.00 USD)

It was most definitely ergonomic influenced... But it was the '80s, ergonomics was largely based in SCI-Fi theory and esthetics.

You had me until you talked about Obi Wan being good. I was thinking, "Ok, I'll give him a chance, why does he think it's good?"....then the fight scene is mentioned? Wtf?!??! It was the same as the Ahsoka/Vader fight from Rebels except it wasn't done as well!!!! I don't know if I can trust you on anything else you say.

We get too sensitive to specific sounds. As bassists, we don't realise that most people can't even tell the difference between a Rickenbacker and a P-bass. And even if they can tell the difference they don't care. Unless we are soloing. Perhaps.
