Combat sports like boxing, MMA, and kickboxing often result in knockout finishes. Should you get knocked unconscious, here is a sport-return concussion therapy protocol to follow.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor -- this is merely my personal advice. Seek medical attention if you think you may have a concussion.

I sincerely hope people listen to your advice. Have read far too many stories of fighters in their teens or early 20s, who are still operating under the "I'm invincible" mindset and don't even see a neuro guy, let alone stop sparring, etc. The danger can't be overestimated, especially for a developing brain.

this video isnt a science lesson, shane is a fighter, like any other part of the body the brain is also a weapon, one that can be improved or weakened so with shane saying that the brain is a muscle too is him expressing the fact the brain is highly susceptible to "injury" like an mcl tear or someshit.

Thanks for increasing awareness around brain injuries. I've been knocked out before and you gave some solid advice there. Something that should also be mentioned, however, is the effect of cumulative head trauma. Fighters who have been knocked out more than twice are very compromised and their coaches need to be aware of that. Keep up the good work.

I love videos. They give me confidence and practice and self control. This afternoon another kid (mabye my age , 13-14) started trying to provoke by pushing me around, mabye a year or two ago I would have got imtimidated and angry but from your videos and MMA training I controled my anger better and walked away, eventually a teacher punished him and I "won". (Even if you act is self-defense in my school you still get heavily/equally punished) Best way to win a fight is to walk away.

@@magnusman I apologize for the comment of my past self. In these 7 years I learned recently that even bumping one's head on a door could be fatal from a brain bleed. Great upload, yet concussion can occur WITHOUT an actual knockout/loss of consciousness; any head injury is best assessed in an A+E/Emergency dept. with robust follow up care. When the brain (or the heart) is in question, it is always better to be over-cautious.

Happened to me! I wasn't event fighting, it was just a sparring session that was a bit heavier than what I'm used to. Didn't pass out, didn't lose balance, no double vision. Heck not even any pain until the next day. I thought it was just a normal migraine, but after 5 days of constant pain, I went to the doctor and he gave me some medication. Medicine helped A LOT, still recovering but I feel way better now than the initial 5 days.

After hearing u said brain damage I am taking this more seriously. On Friday I was training taekwondo at University. it supposed to be light stuff, suddenly a guy( he supposed to have control since he is a trainer in an academy) knocked me out but I didn't fall on the ground. My vitals signs went down and I had nausea. I slept at the hospital for a day so I rest and that is why I didn't have any symptoms next day so I went home. On Sunday I slept like 15 hours and I still have pain in multiple places in the brain. I thought I will be back at gym and taekwondo training by Monday but now I fell like a won't be able to do that. Moreover, I have a competition on Saturday 3rd.

I would be interested to know what is actually being damaged from a concussion, because neurons have almost no regenerative function. Like what is actually healing because the cells are not.
@erenyeager8878
@erenyeager8878 6 ай бұрын
The brain has stem cells so if you get a minor concussion and some cells are damaged if you give enough recovery time they will heal. But if you get a major tbi the brain can completely heal with time through neuroplasticity in which the brain rewires itself to make up for the functions of the lost neurons. But this all will only happen with adequate recovery time and proper nutrients required for brain health.

today my coach did a technical training with me , knowing that I want to compete he threw about 10 crossed punches at maximum strength , they were programmed crossed punches so I knew they would come and I defended them all , but he is a professional mma fighter and he is very strong , the The blows were absurdly strong, she didn't want to hurt me, because it was noticeable that he started weak and the strength of the punches progressed, I believe he was trying to prepare me, because in competitions I will receive worse blows. but I also believe that he doesn't have that insight that maybe more than 5 hits at his maximum power would be of no benefit to me. Of course even while defending I suffered a slight concussion, nothing extreme but I'm sure, punches as strong as those repeated to the same side of the head certainly do something. I want to compete and I'm willing to take hard hits, but I don't want to damage my brain in training.

I have a question: I feel like I have had a small concussion about two weeks ago. I took a heavy shot right to the face in Sparring without headgear. I wasnt ko'd but in the same night I woke up with extreme Headache. One week later after Sparring (this time with head gear) I woke up again with terrible headache. The next day I didnt train but again woke up with strong headache. The headache was always on the right side. I was also very sensitive to light and noise and I felt nauseous. Since then I feel little tired (below my normal energy level) not very motivated and have a constant feeling of nausea and when I do some effort I feel my heart beat very strong in my right ear. Can anyone tell me how long I should wait before I train again? And can I do non combat training like strenght and conditioning, shadowboxing, running?

How about brain damage over long term fighting like Ali and Graziano? - How come they got these conditions if they had taken time off?

I got dropped with a uppercut right to the top of the head and I felt dazed on the ground but when I got up, I felt alright. Just an instance where I was sparring and my buddy had a bad day or something but yeah I seen black for a moment. I’d say if it weren’t for running and my cardio, I’d be out cold
