Do you have a 3.5" desktop hard drive that you need to access? You need a simple, inexpensive SATA to USB cable. Just make sure it has a separate power supply!
Buy from Amazon US: tinyurl.com/2trza7yc
Note: I couldn't find the exact adapter as seen in the video, however the link above provides the Amazon US search results for similar products.

Life Saver! I had an NVME SSD and a 3.5" HDD set-up in my old PC build and I transferred all my files from the NVME SSD to an external HDD. I was shook when I saw there was no Music and Photos etc. browsing on the external HDD when I completed my new PC build. My old PC was completely dissembled. There was zero chance to verify if I had incorrectly transferred or potentialy had too high administative settings that I thought the files were hidden or encrypted. I was silly enough (or organised) that I mapped all my Music and Photos to the 3.5" HDD to reduce the extra storage on the NVME SSD 🤦‍♂. Now it's time to get the adaptor to retrieve those files, thanks for the informative video!

Hi, Thanks for this informative video. My situation is that after seeing four of my laptops fail over the years I have purchased a Macbook. Will your system work in transferring files created on a windows PC to a Mac?

for some reason when I plug in my old external drive to a new computer it comes up on my computer as a D: and E: drive and then when I click on either one - the new computer folder manager crashes and says "not responding" and I can't do anything until I shut off the old external drive.

I have a 2007 3.5 SATA Drive (hard drive from an 2007 HP PC) Will the old HD heat up and need some sort of cooling? My 'E' drive is already assigned to the DVD drive. Is that a problem? Do you have 110 or 220 electrical outlets? Mine are 110.

My Windows 11 laptop detected the driver as D:, but it asks for format the disk, which defeats the purpose. I tried to connect to a Windows Vista, still the same result. Any suggests, Joe? Thanks a bunch

I also experience same problem with win10 and an old hdd from my winxp pc... While one drive worked fine (only after applying read/write rights for all data), the second drive shows 0gb capacity and requires format . Both still work fine in the old pc. And I don't wanna loose my data!!

Hi there, could you help me with these 2 questions? Question 1: I have an old 3.5 HDD from a desktop and 2.5 HDD from a laptop and I want to recover files from this HDDs. Is this the only way to recover files by using the "SATA to USB cable" connected to a PC/Laptop? Question 2: Can I connect these HDDs to a desktop PC internally inside the motherboard's sata port/power cable and access the files from the PC?

1. Provided that both the 2.5 and 3.5 inch are SATA HDDs, you can use a SATA to USB cable like the one in the video to recover the data - just be aware that the 3.5" HDD needs to be powered. 2. You can open up a desktop PC and plug a hard drive into a free SATA connector on the MOBO. That said, if the HDD is in a format that is incompatible with the desktop PCs OS, you may not be able to access the data on the drive. Thanks for watching. i hope this helps.

You can't directly pull the data from the HDD. You need a software interface to access the files. If it's directly put to the MOBO, you'd definitely need the old drivers which were written for old school Windows. You could probably emulate or create a VM to try and mimic the OS and drivers that came out with this particular hardware.

You'll need to get a device similar to the one I use in this video. But yes, you should be able to connect your old HDD to your laptop and retrieve the files. Thanks for watching!

What if you can clearly tell there’s no spinning? Is it broken and the data just gone?
@GizmoJoeReviewsTech
@GizmoJoeReviewsTech 4 ай бұрын
If it doesn't spin there's a good chance the drive is dead. The only way to recover the data on it would be to bring it to a data recovery service, however they can be expensive. Thanks for watching.

Hi Marcelo, haha yes I know. But to be fair, 3.5 inch HDD are definitely being phased out. I hate to see e-waste, so I figured I'd publish a video letting people know that the old drives they have lying around don't have to be destined for the rubbish bin. Thanks for watching!

@@pguerrero329 I have no idea what slave mean but i'll pretend to know.. Yeah no i don't personally use slave myself i just manually connected the laptop hard drives to the cables in my tower pc. Don't think i did them all at the same time, might've done one and one harddrive at a time to "keep track" i think. No software blockage or anything in my case at least.

Thanks for showing the hard drive is recognized. So many other videos show nothing useful beyond revealing that such adapters exist. That said, 'data recovery' carries the same meaning as 'sickness recovery'. Was your hard drive sick, as in corrupted? Your title is misleading, in other words. Most people are looking for solution to data recovery and will be frustrated by this rather than find it useful. The small thumbs up count confirms this. You would be better off changing title to "how to View data from hard drive using usb adapter" or similar. Then people looking for that would actually find your video instead of the alternative. ...your channel though obviously.
