Ya, I've come across that too. Often, its a Windows permissions issues. You can try to turn off User Account Control (if its on) and take ownership of the drive at the root level or on each user folder. IE: c:\users\admin. Google "Take Ownership" and the OS version (IE Windows 7) and follow the instructions. If you are feeling adventurous, you can always try "Hiren's BootCD". He's put together a bootable CD with a ton of Linux tools that will work on Windows File Systems.

Typically, as long as you can power on a drive and access it you can get the data back one way or another. However, it looks like your drive needs expert attention to recover the data. That said, if you want to keep trying you can download Hiren's boot CD and try some of the drive tools. Note: The latest version of Hiren's Boot CD should be 100% Linux or Open Source tools. Try downloading it via Bit torrent.

There are a few ways to recover lost files. If you are running Vista or Higher (Windows 7/8) and you have "Previous Versions" enabled, you can use that tool to recover the older version. Google "Previous Versions" for more info. If the file is important, I recommend that you call a paid for support company like support . com, they will know what to do.

1. What is the brand/model/price of this docking station? 2. Does this docking station work for both types of drives (seta & alternative)? Or seta only? 3. Where can I get this docking station?

Well done. I have a HP that is pretty old. It partially boots up but not enough for me to get my photo of the computer. I will pick up a docking station and follow your lead and see where that takes me. Thanks.

How do you know which docking station to get as the one i previously got did not have the correct plug in slot. I have a WD Scorpio Blue 640GB WD6400BEVT. This is from an Acer laptop and looks very different from the one you use.

@ITincorporated11 жыл бұрын
Probably the best option is to get a hard drive enclosure. Check the drive connector first. Its either SATA or IDE. If it does look like the ones in my video its IDE. Then go online and order the cheapest hard drive enclosure you can find.
@ITincorporated11 жыл бұрын
That's a tough one. It could be a number of things from the type of File System used on the partitions to the version of Windows you are using to connect to the drive. (IE: Windows XP) If I had to guess, I suspect that the drive is formatted with a GUID partition table (GPT) instead of the old school MBR format. If that's the case, you'll need to connect your drive to a Windows Vista or higher (IE: Windows 7 or 8) PC for it to be able to read the drive.

Question please. I have hard drive from my broken PC that was install windows. Can i connect this drive to my new PC to recover files, and how? Thanks a lot.
@ITincorporated11 жыл бұрын
Chances are the only problem is that your Power Supply is dead. I'd recommend swapping out your power supply and see what happens. That's a pretty easy job and if that doesn't work, you can always return the new power supply. Just bring your PC into a local PC place and ask them to sell you one that will work for your PC. They should be able to figure that out on the spot. Otherwise, this trick should work for you. Chances are good that your drive is fine.

My computer is DEAD. After connecting the usb cable, all I get is a click-click-etc sound and as in your case, no disc drive pops up (K in your case)? all I have is the drives C-D-E. after disconnecting and resting, I reconnect the usb and the clicking sound has gone away, but still no drive K... what do you think I could be doing wrong. I have Windows 8.1 and am trying to download with a Kingwin ez connect usi-2535 ... 40 pin ide interface

Sounds like your drive is dead. Try another drive if you can find one and if the other drive works then you know it's dead. If you really want the data contact a company that specializes in data recovery. They sometimes have advanced techniques that might work

Would there be any way to access the recycle bin files on the hard drive being transferred? Or is the only way to do that through the desktop on the original computer of the hard drive?
@ITincorporated7 жыл бұрын
Good question. I had never been asked that one. I followed these steps in Windows 10 on a drive that was used in Widows 10 and it worked. This will probably work in Windows XP and higher. Mac, I am not sure. Bring up File Explorer (Windows Key + E). In the Menus, go to Tools - Folder Options - View. Scroll down and select "Show hidden files and folders", and also un-select "Hide operating system files". Now click on the external drive in the left panel "Folders". You should see at folder like this: $RECYCLE.BIN That should have the contents of the recycle bin on that drive. This video is helpful, I have two questions though: 1. My PC won't start up after a power surge-and yes it had no surge protection-if I do this method in the video could my files still be accessible, or did the surge fry that too? 2. Could this work transferring files from my dead PC to a laptop? I'm looking into one of those rather than another PC if that's possible. (Not sure if it helps but my PC is an HP Pavilion a450m, idk exactly what year but it's a couple years old
@ITincorporated11 жыл бұрын
More than likely. Errors like this indicate that the drive is accessible but something is wrong like a bad sector or corrupt file.

My computer won't recognize my 3.5 Seagate 750 GB hard drive via my docking station? It's not the docking station, because it recognized another 2.5 Seagate 500GB laptop HD that I plugged into it?
@gurleyz8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I can hear the 3.5 hd spinning when I power the docking station on. My pc nor my laptop will recognize it. It's an old 750GB Seagate Sata HD from a pc that didn't have USB 3.0 and my docking station uses 3.0 but it's backwards compatible with 2.0 of course. I just want to save the files. I'm contemplating trying the freezer method and/or the oven method, but I don't know? Lol
