How to Recover MSI Laptop to Original Factory Settings Without Losing Data

Turn on or restart your laptop. Press "F3" repeatedly when the MSI logo appears on the screen during the boot process to be redirected to the "Windows Boot Manager."
Highlight "Windows Setup [EMS Enabled]" using the arrow keys on the keyboard. Press "Enter" to access the recovery partition on the hard drive of the MSI laptop. The "System Recovery Option" dialog box will appear on the screen. Click "MSI Recovery Manager." Click "OK" when a message appears on the screen notifying you that your computer will be restored to its original factory settings.

your D hard drive data is safe, only windows C drive is being reset. So backup all your data in C drive including pictures, documents, etc. But to be more safe, you should backup your D data

this will format c drive and install fresh windows . e drive data will not be effected which was present when you got the laptop. So make sure to move all other important data to e drive .Hope this helps.

I believe so. If the said virus affected your OS anyways. If it affected your files, then there is nothing that can be done which is why you should always create a backup every month or so. I didn’t and had to take it in when my OS was corrupted a few days ago since I didn’t see this video at the time. Once I get it back I’m instantly going to back it up monthly from now on.

Be careful. This is a little vague. You won't lose your "data" like, documents, pictures, music etc... but I "believe" you will lose your programs and applications that were not on the system when you got it. What I always do is save the exe. files for all my programs I download online along with their installation keys (if needed) to a different partition than the system partition so I don't have to go online again to look them up, which can be a hassle because if you paid for them, you will need the install key and/or proof of purchase, which depending on when you got them, can be a real pain.. The only thing I would have to do is update them to the latest version, but most of them will automatically let you know there's a new version after you install them and if you would like to install it.

Get an external HDD and create backup. Windows has many options, of which I prefer the legacy systems that have not been default since Windows 10. You can find all of these options through the "Control Panel" interface, use the search bar in the bottom left of your screen to find it. Open the Control Panel and select the Systems and Security category. Inside you'll find the "File History" and "Backup and Restore (Windows 7)". I prefer Backup and Restore, personally. Connect your external HDD or other storage hardware and run one of those Windows utilities. There is also a third option, which is a true backup where the data on your disk is cloned bit-for-bit. This is called a "System Image", and it is the equivalent of nuking your hard drive from orbit. It is the most demanding of storage, does not compress, takes a long time to create, and may not be compatible with replacement hardware. It is as though you have a clone waiting in a stasis tube with a sign on the outside reading, "Break glass in case of total systems failure", very supervillain. I have had this utility save me from stupid many times over the years. I suggest creating a System Image as part of the unboxing of any new computer or after any successful System Restore. I hope 9 months is not too late for someone to give a damn. Good luck, bud.
