From a 10 year Auto Painter overall good job, it's nothing to be afraid of, and every mistake CAN be fixed.... One tip I'd say is 3-5 light coats are better than 1-2 heavy coats. You just have less runs to deal with and sanding/prepping for top coats are usually alot easier that way.

If you don't want to mess up a bike stand, use a broom handle supported in a (masked) workbench. Tape a bit of old inner tube around the top to provide some friction, then put the head tube over the end of the broom handle to support the frame. You can then easily rotate the frame to get good coverage, and turn it the other way up when required. The frame doesn't swing around in the wind and there's no risk of the cable catching the paint job.

As a auto painter I have a few tips - to clean the frame use sprayaway glass cleaner of glass cleaners of that style in a aerosol can - you can sand the frame down with 180 then come back with 320 sand paper to get the 180 scratches out then you can scotch it the primer will fill the 320 scratches I’d put 3 coats on when you go to sand the frame you can lightly spray some other color paint on the prime so you’ll know when it’s all evenly sanded you can use 600 sand paper to do it the base will fill a 600 scratch 2-3 coats of base or until frame covered (obviously if you are doing different colors for effects like this you can do as many coats as needed) then 2-3 coats of clear depending on what kind of clear you are using can do as many as 5 id recommend a 2k clear with harder you can buy that in a can also tape off your bottom bracket by making a flower look with tape sticking it in the frame and having some stick out all the way around then fold it up together and put a piece of tape to hold it together also would hang it from the head tube lol

Ollie's PhD wasn't very helpful here! (jk) ! First of all the mask, you used is for dust ! The fumes, or as more people know it the smell, do harmful stuff to your lungs and this mask does absolutely nothing! Secondly when you get the frame out of the sandblasting you DONT touch it with bare hands ! Because most people don't even gonna degrease it that's why I mention it (DIY project) ! As far as primer goes you can paint outside it will be sanded anyway! Make sure your spray bottle is always vertical and remind yourself that the pressure inside it drops as you paint (not good) that's why pros have an air compressor with an air tank! Also bearing races and bottom bracket should be covered! I don't know anything about the painting method you are using but outside still needs a lot more preparation than our example here! Anyway since it's DIY no worries!

@@Xune2000 A lot of blasting isn't paint related, a lot of coatings don't mind a little contamination (Rustolium, Krylon, etc are really hard to screw up, but they also are very limited in the quality of the finish), so it's easy for a blaster to get complacent if the customer doesn't specifically mention it. But doing a specialty coating like this, Ya you want to take every precaution because often specialty coatings will run if you so much as look at them funny.

Olli Schoolboy error Aluminium Oxide paper Oakley Abrasives made Glass Paper incorrectly called sand paper. You use Etch Primer on Aluminium rather than a standard primer. Do not spray in temperatures below 10C 50F Make sure the surface is warm so as any water has evaporated from the metal so as you do not seal in any moisture on the prepared surface. Foreign bodies can contaminate the surface if you are applying paint outside. Not a good thing to do. Plastic film in a shed with an extractor fan would be a way around the problem. GCN Elves if you are doing something like this do it in the most professional way possible.

This bike was really easy to assemble kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
