1. What is going on in their world at the moment? 2. What is important to them at this time? 3. Am I listening to understand or listening to defend? 4. Have I clearly communicated my perspective?

When we assume that others are thinking the same as we are....this is the big problem in understanding and accepting differences

That's the best video I've ever watched about this topic. Today I listen to understand. Not always but consciously can relate to that. I am getting better!

The "Listening Frame of Mind" "Am I listening to Understand, or Listeni.g to Defend..." A really short statement - that packs a HUGE reality... Well said sir! Well done -

How to be ground underfoot. I was a housekeeper in Bordeaux and the cleaner and gardener hounded me out. I went to my employers to ask them to back me up and they didn't. I always was clear with the day's work, and was never high-handed with her. I was respectful and gave her enjoyable tasks (I could have given her wall-to-wall ironing - I didn't). Some people are simply nasty. I went on to better things, but with all the will in the world, ruthless people eat respectful people for breakfast.

Perhaps you may see things not the same as the other person because you're not looking at their side just like the you're not looking at your side. You got all those colours on the ball instead of being narrow-minded and seeing just the three colours that you see turn around and jump in the other person's shoes for a while and see what colours they see. Is there a life full of the same colours maybe they look at life differently but we still live on this big globe which is round. When you look around the world on the other side of the country they can't see your side just like you can't see theirs but we still live on this Earth and we need to tolerate one another's differences
