Other than this would make me look HUGE! It's a great tutorial. Living in Canada, the inside would be fleece for me.

Thank you! I agree the coat is oversized, and I try to style it with narrow pants and high heeled boots to elongate my figure a bit.

I love everything about how this coat turned out except that stark white lining. I personally would have gone with a darker color.
@SabrinaLeeSewing
@SabrinaLeeSewing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind comment! I agree that a darker lining would have been better. I went with the white because that was what I had in my stash, and the goal of the project was to reuse and refashion as much as possible.

How big was your original blanket? I found a cream colored one yesterday at a yard sale. It shows a little bit of wear and I’m checking out to see if it is moth related before I even consider this. Beautiful job by the way.
@SabrinaLeeSewing
@SabrinaLeeSewing Жыл бұрын
Sadly I didn't measure the blanket before cutting, but I recall putting it on my queen sized bed and it just covered the surface of the bed (without much overhang on the sides). Hope that helps!

Thank you! It's really not that difficult; you just need to take your time and work through each step one at a time. Even beginners can make this coat, especially if you make it out of a solid colored fabric and don't have to worry about print matching!
@iamtina67
@iamtina67 4 ай бұрын
have you tried to use the edge of the blanket so you can cut a step out by not finishing the edges, by using the already finished blanket edges?
@SabrinaLeeSewing
@SabrinaLeeSewing 4 ай бұрын
@@iamtina67 I have tried that on other coats that are not lined, and it is true that this saves a bit of time. When the coat is lined, the raw edges are contained within the lining and exterior fabric anyway so using the edge of the blanket doesn't save any time. In general, I prefer the feel of lined coats (especially when lined on a luscious silk!), and I think it's worth taking the extra time to add the lining.
@soulfemme

Did you make a toile beforehand? Thanks again for taking the time to do this. Gonna start cutting today and plan on following this tutorial closely along with the instructions
@SabrinaLeeSewing

No, because this coat is very oversized so I thought fit wouldn't be too much of an issue.

Absolutely LOVE this!! Thank you for the video. Also: Do you know the measurements of your blanket? I know they make a few sizes, so I'm not sure which one to buy.
@SabrinaLeeSewing
@SabrinaLeeSewing 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don't -- I never stopped to measure it before I cut it up! That said, I draped the blanket over my queen sized bed, and it seemed to fit (with a bit of overhang on either side), so that should give you a rough sense of the dimensions.
