Gregor... You and Joe are such an asset to Presonus. I've just moved over to Studio One after 10+ years of Logic. I bought a Presonus Audio interface (for the Latency) and never expected to be changing DAW's but because of all the cool stuff you showed me that Studio One can do in your videos i had to!! Gregor has blown my mind again! 🤯 I never knew you could do this in Studio One! I've always routed everything to a "pre-mix" bus so that I can have reference or guide tracks going straight to the stereo out without going through all the processing of my mix bus. I'm going to update my templates right away to include tracks for guide tracks with their own outputs!

Very nice and handy tip. The only disadvantage I can see with this method compared to 3rd party A/B reference plugins is that your reference track will be playing from wherever your cursor sits on the timeline which might or might not be convenient at all. For example you might be looking to compare your levels on the busiest part of your track to a reference's busiest part, or the part where the kick+bass are introduced in your track against the reference's kick+bass, etc which is something you can easily target, select and focus on pretty much all the 3rd party A/B plugins but not in this case showed here. Other than that spot on tip!
@bachbeats22172 жыл бұрын
You didn't put your room correction plugin on the reference track also, so there's gonna be a major difference in the mix sounds. I would love for a option to bypass the master bus like you did, but then send it to the Listen Bus!

That's why I prefer a mixbus and exclude the reference tracks. How would this be used in the project page where referencing is needed even more? Gregor, you and Joe are undeniably Studio One bosses and I'm always thankful for all your offerings. That being said, just wondering why the need to call reference tracks by a different name ? Guide tracks ? There are persistent terms used to describe events in professional audio that we all use and understand on the daily. Why the need to reinvent the wheel ? Change is good and so is evolution but do we really need to change some of the terms just to differentiate one daw, manufacturer or product from another ? If there is a meaningful reason, by all means I'm all ears......

Is there any way to route this GUIDE output to a listen bus? I’ve been using the configuration you showed for quite some time and the only downside is that I have to duplicate my Sonarworks plugin to that output too, which consumes extra CPU, not much, but still, would be a lot simpler to be able to route it to a listen bus so that it shares all the plugins there.

Could this be used as a "reference track" so that you can get your mix/master sounding commercial? Or is there a better way to do that?
@alexeysmirnovguitar4 жыл бұрын
I think it Can! Be sure to do volume matching for fair listening experience. If you need more than one reference track, just use multiple layers. The only problem with this method is you have to do manual volume matching (using event gain, etc). Not a big deal for me, anyway!

Hi Cheri, this works the exact same way in Studio One 3 as well. Have you double checked that you clicked on the "Outputs" tab in the Mixer? Hi Gregor. Thank you for your tutorials! I have a question. I see that you are using Sonorworks reference 4. So am I. I've noted that you can not route a track directly to the listen bus. So you can hear it through the listen bus as well. Did I miss something? Or can't it be done? Is there a work around?
@presonus4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jheronimus, I'm not quite sure what you're trying to do. The Listen Bus is mirroring the Main Out, so anything that you solo/mute will be solo/muted on the Listen Bus also - Unless you work with the option "Solo through Listen Bus", which you wouldn't want to engage when working with Sonarworks Reference. -GBY
@jheronimusduko79984 жыл бұрын
@@presonus Thank you for trying to answer my question. Although I don't think you understand me. As you sad. The listen bus is monitoring the main out. But I want to bypass the main out with my reference track but let the signal go through the listen bus. I want that because I don't want the main buss processing of my song olso on the reference track like in your video. But I want the room correction from the reference track to be just the same so I want to route the signal trough the listen bus. I use the listen bus for my reference 4 room correction plugin. Solo through listen buss does wat I want. But unfortunately that option is for ill the tracks or none. And that's not what I want. I only want my reference track to go through the listen bus with my room correction on it directly and all the other tracks have to go through the main bus and then trough the listen bus. I'm sorry I'm not a native speaker. I hope you understand me now. And thank you again for trying to answer my question. Greetings from the Netherlands.

@@jheronimusduko7998 Hi, that´s why I don´t use the listen bus and still use the routing I did in version 4. The simplest way to solve your problem is to create a bus before the MAIN BUS, I call it SUB (the output goes to the MAIN BUS) On the SUB I do all the mix bus processing like bus compression, master eq and limiting etc. On the MAIN BUS itself there´s only Sonarworks (and maybe stuff like Analyzers inserted BEFORE Sonarworks, but only plugins that do not change or process the sound.) That way you can route all reference tracks directly to the MAIN and use Sonarworks and Analyzers for them without them being processed by the SUB inserts. Quick solo switching between reference tracks and mix will be just the same.

Perfect timing! I literally was looking for videos about Metric AB referencing which I recently scored for half price! My question is why are you routing the reference track to a separate output channel? Couldn't you just hide the track while the channel is showing in the mixer? Is this just to avoid scrolling in the mixer? Thanks Gregor!
