Thanks for the video. I bought Urefill toners for my previous laser printer and now having upgraded to a Kyocera M5521cdn needed to check what was available. Useful tip about the chip and toner not necessarily needing to be replaced at the same time. Although as I don't use Windows (I use Postscript 3 driver on RISC OS) is there another way of knowing what colour needs to be rechipped in response to "non-genuine" message ? (Apart from guessing from a label stuck on the toner with the date I refilled them.)

Sorry, but a "Postscript 3 driver on RISC OS" is not our area of expertise. When you get a "non-genuine" message, the printer must know which colour cartridge it's not happy with. That's shown by a pop-up on the computer screen in our experience as you can see here kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqm0aoB-jrZ0nsU

Hello, I'm considering going down this route in order to be more environmentaly friendly and save some cash. My only question is; what do you do with the waste toner side of the cartridge? Is there any way to empty this? I'm worried that the waste portion will fill up too much and leave a big mess inside the printer. Thanks in advance.

The waste does gradually fill up and it can be emptied, if necessary

If Kyocera put their money where their mouth is they wouldn't use chips. Kyocera are all for the environment (with long-life-drums) but the toner lets them down. Chips mean refilling an empty box is expensive and difficult so totally against environmental protection. Kyocera used to be chipless (and also RFID-stickerless before chips) which was genuinely good for the environment as all you had to do was remove a plug and pour in a bottle of replacement toner into an empty box and hold down the green button for 12 seconds to reset the counter. It seems profit before ideology has now infected Kyocera and they lost their way.

I never knew Kyocera toners were chipless, thanks. You are right it's a backwards step but hopefully in a post-Covid world and the chance for humanity to mend their ways all printer manufacturers may look beyond chipped toners.

With the kyocera m5521 cdn m5521cdw its a struggle to find decent non genuine toners as the others seem to leave streaks and marks does refiling the cartridges do the same ?also is it best to refill genuine cartridges with youre toner ? cheers

We've had no issues with streaking in our printer >> is it best to refill genuine cartridges with your toner ? Yes. That's what has been tested and is known to be successful

You also need to do something about the chip. Either replace it or follow the protocol as shown by Kyocera on the LCD screen. All in the video

We don't know. We look for the cheapest way that works. Once we've got that, we don't waste time looking for other ways in which it might not work

In our experience, refilling the target cartridge with our toner got rid of the "Replace" message

Pressing both ok and cancel for at least three seconds solved the message no original toner without changing the chip.
