Replacing chip is very easy for this cartridge, no need to cut plastic.

@@stevexiao1488 There are 2 Screws and a Spring you need to remove, then the whole side-piece, where the chip is inside, will just come of (it is clipped in place with 2 or 3 clips additionally). Then you can change out the chip, put everything back and voila. But, you should also empty out the waste toner compartment. It is also stored inside the whole tone cartridge. You need to make another hole and empty it out and close it via tape.

it's ridiculous to make a hole into cartridge ,you can simply refill it by moving screws in it's left corner,also you can replace the color ship easily without cutting it's plastic cover

Actually I don’t even bother cutting the chip out. I just placed a new chip on top of it with some double-sided sticky tape and it works just fine. There is enough clearance so you don’t have to even worry about removing the old one.

Why remove old toner, does it matter? Why is the new chip required, what happens if you do not replace the chip?

+Brin Gauler Due to differences in toner powder between manufacturers, you don't want to mix one from another (unless you are always using the same brands). The chip must be changed because it records the toner is low which renders the toner cartridge not useable.

Can someone explain why the need to empty out the old toner? If you refill with the same toner from the same source each time, would it be ok just to refill and place new chip? Minus a few grams of course.

If you refill the same toner from same source, then you don't have to empty the old toner. The problem is when you mix different brands of toner and the print can have bad quality.
