How to register a DOMAIN NAME for your UK business?

Welcome to part 2 of this series all about creating your first business web site! In part 1 we looked at the fundamentals of web hosting and Wordpress web sites. Today we're getting this show on the road and registering the domain name for this actual KZbin channel! I use 123-Reg for my domain names in the UK - link below. In part 3 we'll be getting G-mail and this KZbin channel up and running. Then it's time to get the web hosting sorted in part 4!

I think the actual self employment stuff would be the same - not sure. The NEA website hasn't been updated for a couple of years and very limited information on there. Probably best checking with your assigned mentor once you're up and running - defo feed back here though! 👍 Good luck!

Actually got a vid coming up on that very subject! Once you're absolutely sure you have everything from your hold host that you need and it's no longer required you just ask them to close down the account. 👍

@@SmallBusinessToolbox ​Thanks for replaying Andy I am just wondering if wordpress is free or do they start charging after a year. When I tried to join wordpress using my laptop. Its coming up with 3 pricing plans. Andy can you also do a video on how to bulk upload and download stock using excel - CSV file to the online site. It would be helpful for people who have 1000's of products to their online store.

It sounds like you're talking about wordpress.com (hosted by WordPress). I'm talking about wordpress.org (self hosted). The stock upload thing is a huge topic and a bit too much for this channel. I just want to give people an idea of how to build a basic website themselves. Once you have the basics there's a world of videos on KZbin explaining how to do more advanced stuff. Best of luck! 👍

Hi Adam - .com has more of a global acceptance. If you're planning to trade outside the UK then I would go for a .com. If you're purely aimed at UK customers then I would just go for a .uk / .co.uk 👍

The only very minor thing I can think of is that Google Search Console has a bit more flexibility with .com domains (or at least it did last I checked). But no, makes no difference in terms of who can access the site.
