Thanks andy great video. My son has brought one and tries to use it discretely ie pedals when he spots a Copper and its got me interested in buying one. Aged 72 and keen cyclist and motorcyclist I want something like this to use locally and the proper motorbike for longer trips. Only this country would we need to go through all of this to be able to ride one. I would rather jump through this hurdles though than risk getting nicked and having the bike crushed by the law. This video and your others will certainly make this process that much easier now though. Thanks Ted

I live in Estonia, Europe I tried to register my enduro as an L1e moped. I wasted about 400 Euros. Problems: The Enduro frame is not made by me. The use of spare parts is not allowed. Spare parts are those parts that can be purchased at a bike shop. I have to make all the parts myself, complete stupidity and an extremely unpleasant attitude.

I realise this is a few years ols now but if you are going through this process don\t get a smaller plate get a full size UK Legal One. The Police are bound to give you a tug at some point if they see you on one of these and a small plate will cost you up to a £1000, though it is normally only £100 that is bad enough.

For the headache and cost its better to buy a road-ready bike be it electric or petrol, if petrol then convert it to electric in time.

Suggestions for good, low-cost anti-Cold-Wet-Filthy Weather gear, Andy and viewers ? All very well having a fast ebike - but unpredictable and 'orrible British weather is the real challenge. Has anyone found any magic cheap solutions ? PS. I frequently also use oversized, short wellington boots lined with thick and cosy insoles - I got sick of having to dry out expensive shoes and soaked socks. The problem with all-weather gear of course is that you have to find somewhere to put it all when you get to your destination. It's ultimately because of the weather that most people eventually give up on bikes and ebikes and get a car..or electric car. (PS. and of course the faster you go on your ebike the colder it feels and the harder the rain hits you !) Paul G

There seem to be a strange difference in law between "top design speed" (of 45 kph for L1e-B) and "top speed" of 50 kph. Most mopeds for AM driving licence will show 45 kph / 28 mph, but I have 50 kph on my driving licence. It couldn't be more confusing, but both speed seem to apply to the same AM class (or B for driving licences from before 2001). Thus the actual top speed is 50 kph / 31 mph or 5 kph above the "design". Would you agree?

Thanks Andy I don't even have an electric bike but watched the video all the way through , very interesting. I'm sure the information is very valuable to anyone thinking of registering their bike. I'm sure the system needs to be updated for diy electric bike makers to make the process a bit easier. Seems like the sections pertaining to the motor engines could be omitted to avoid confusion and its 2020 should be able to answer the questions on an online form.I expected the insurance to be cheaper ,even with your points but hopefully that will drop substantially after the first year of riding. Great info thanks for the upload mate..

Andy thank your mate: silly quickie. Side stand, does it need a cut off and does it need to be spring loaded (flicks up when you move)
@andykirby4 жыл бұрын
A side stand doesn’t need a cut off if it can be shown that it will likely fold up when you move the bike forward. In my case it’s difficult to sit on the bike with the stand up because the suspension compresses so you have to fold it up pretty much as soon as you get on the bike, what’s important is that It needs a spring or mechanism to keep it in held in place whilst riding and when its down it holds the bike at an angle where it’s unlikely to fall over in all steering positions! 😁 Clear?!?

Good morning AndyOn the paper work it states I get up to 3500 euros for the bike if it gets stolen and for corporel and hospital up to 10000€Euro rate is about 1.13=1 pound.Its not alot but phone your House Insurance brokers and see if they can suggest a solution.I took outa Policy out three years ago and could only find 2 companies in the whole of France which were wiling to cover me.And recently a friend with a new e bike (worth about 4500€) is paying 270€ per annum.Its a good idea to get insured because if you have a accident at least some of the costs are offset and if its your fault and you wind up infront of a Judge it looks better (a responsible citizen) .With todays e scooters and e bikes going faster and faster its becoming a must.Especially if you knock over a pedestrian.In anycase the Insurance companys are going to rub their hands with glee !! It wont be long before the French authorities will impose a Green style dated Insurance duty stamp to stick on the frame,proving your insured.As for me I prefer to play safe,its all part of the game, next will a warning triangle,yellow vest,and a BAC tester !!! No more pints at the local mate.!!! In France for the car I have all three !!!

Hello Andy how much is the road tax for the first year or is it free 🤔 I also forgot to ask if you are registering it as a moped & what sort of maximum power can you set the speed controller at ? and as you mentioned that you haven't a motorbike licence you might have to take a CBT test which I believe only lasts for two years ? As I'm in the middle of building a 12000 watt enduro bike weighing in at 90 kg pretty heavy I know . very interested in this subject that you have brought up keep up the good work mate 🤝 Lucky enough I've done my motorbike test in 99 😰
@andykirby4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, road tax is 100% discount because it’s electric. I’m registering as a 4KW (50cc equivalent) moped becuase it’s the most easy way of doing it, I’m not going to be going 60mph on this build so it’s fine for me. Acceleration to 30mph is why I got into this stuff😁 I have full moped entitlement on my license so don’t need a CBT or L plates. My bike is capable of 14kW off road 😅 Your bike sounds cool, it would come under the 125cc bracket I reckon, which of course you can ride with your full license😁
