Thank you so much for taking the time to post this very informative video. It, along with the NEVER DO THIS video was all I needed to get my clubs re-gripped without any issues. Thanks again

I have a roll of clear double-sided carpet tape. Can I use that, or do I need to purchase the special tape? Also, years ago when I replaced grips, I just used lighter fluid. Yes? No?

I Like you were adamant about taking the old tape off. I just saw a few videos to where they left the old tape on. Thank you

Great video, I appreciate its now 4 years old, someone else may have mentioned you didn’t remove the second layer of tape before fitting the grip. That aside a great demo thanks

That was my personal club and I play with an extra wrap under hence leaving the old tape.

@@EFGMC Thanks for explaining, I took your advice and got a roofers blade and following your instructions have just done 3 clubs successfully, only 7 to go. You’ve made a 70yr old feel very capable thanks again. 😁

Was this two sided tape? Typically you remove both sides of the tape.
@EFGMC Жыл бұрын
Yes, double sided tape dispenser pulls the backing off automatically.

great video.... but what is the solvent? its just a sticky thing and sticky with Adhesive, what else we can use other than solvent?
@EFGMC Жыл бұрын
Mineral spirits is a good alternative. Also heard more dangerous options like lighter fluid or gasoline. Don't recommend those for obvious reasons.

Before you apply the grip onto the shaft, have you removed the double side tape backing?
@EFGMC3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you want to remove all backing tape before applying the solvent. Thanks for watching!

Quick question - my 2" grip tape doesn't quite go all the way around my iron shafts. Is that ok or do I need to use another piece of tape? Your videos are very clear and demystify a lot of things. Thanks for sharing so much great information
@EFGMC Жыл бұрын
Tape doesn't always overlap depending on the shaft diameter. It's ok.

Hi, great tutorial as usual. This is probably a stupid question but the double sided golf tape which is applied, I assume the top peel away layer of the double sided doesn't have to be removed before the solvent is applied or have I missed something? Also, I have removed the old tape however it has left a sticking residue albeit very smooth. Is it imperative that it is removed to the metal before regripping? Regards. JB. Scotland.
@EFGMC2 жыл бұрын
You do want to remove all the backing paper from the tape before applying it and using solvent. Don't worry about the residue left over. Does not effect anything and you won't feel it under the new tape and grip.
@johnbrown43022 жыл бұрын
@@EFGMC thanks. Wasn't sure if perhaps the solvent dissolved the top layer of the tape paper. Much appreciated.👍

A question on taping up grips. My measurements (based on hand length/middle finger length etc) asks for a standard grip size +1/64. What does this mean? Is it 1 layer of normal masking tape + 1 layer of double sided tape? Butt diameter in the irons= 0.600" and 620 " in the graphite shafts. Regards
@EFGMC3 жыл бұрын
This can get a little tricky because different grips act differently when stretched. Did a video on this. Sometimes a grip when stretched (ie .600 onto .620 or .580 onto .600) it thins out and the end result comes out back to standard. One layer of double side tape is around .012 if I'm remembering correctly. That would give you basically the 1/64 over if you were talking .600 onto .600 or .580 onto .580. Also remember that shafts taper at different rates so grips can feel different on different shafts especially when going from steel to graphite. All that being said, I firmly believe that almost every golfer will see better results if a grip is slightly too large vs too small so I might say do 2x wraps on the irons and 1x on the woods. Just my thoughts!

What is the easiest way to align the grips properly on a driver? It seems like irons are fairly straightforward but given the line angle and face orientations of a driver looking down the shaft it looks a little more complex. Thanks!
@EFGMC2 жыл бұрын
If it has a logo on top, you can align that with a horizontal plane and go off that. If it doesn't then I would just play to your weakness. If you usually slice the ball, align the grip with the face a little more closed. If you hook it, then do the opposite and align slightly open.

BTW, I have nineteen clubs that I'm working on and most of them have Winn brand grips which are rotted, crumbling, and sticky. Note to self: NEVER buy Winn grips.
