What are you thoughts on the use of remeshing versus retopologizing? I'm struggling to get 3D modeling under control and this is my latest sticking point. I'm at a point with a base mesh that I sculpted that I need to prepare for adding details (space suit, plasma weapons, cool looking extraneous doo-dads, etc.)

I very rarely use a remesh to combine objects. I generally find it the lazy option when a boolean would be the cleaner choice. That's not always true but if you don't need the extra geometry I don't think this is the right choice. So the question is do you need that extra geometry to add those objects?

@@ArtisansofVaul My question was poorly worded. My concern is about cleaning the mesh itself and "normalizing" it, not so much adding the extra bits. Some areas of the mesh are higher density than others and almost all of it is probably higher density than is required. I mean... a 28-32mm tall figure doesn't need *that* high of a resolution. Also, thanks for the response.

@funwithmadness I very rarely worry about having an equal mesh for 3D printing. If the area is flat it doesn't need any extra topology and areas with tight curves should have much more. Unless you notice it impacting the print I wouldn't worry about it personally. Or are you finding that problem?

@@ArtisansofVaul No problems with the mesh, per se. I'm just attempting to find a sensible workflow at the same time as learn 3D modeling. The mesh just seems a bit dense and I think it's causing some lag in the computer.
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul Жыл бұрын
@funwithmadness It it's more dense than it needs to be and is causing lag then that is something you want to do something about. Is it organic or hard surface? Just so you're aware for the future your best of learning from the areas that are too dense and in the future not making them as dense but for your current project try using the Decimate modifier. That will reduce the density of your mesh and it has different versions. It's hard to advise which to use without seeing your project but I'd play around with the different versions of it (selected in the modifier) and see which has the best result. Just be warned that this can be a slow process if your computer is currently struggling with the mesh you have so be prepared to give it a bit of time to work.

Can you remesh fir sculpting but keep all edges as the are? If there are lots of them how do you do it to just give flat faces more voxels to sculpt
@ArtisansofVaul

Not via geometry nodes. But I guess the question is why are you remeshing for sculpting using geometry nodes? This is more for when it's needed as part of a geometry node sequence to get more geometry.

@@ArtisansofVaul oh my question was a a general one. I’ve been trying to sculpt surface damage detail into a flat surface but a remesh ruins the overall geometry and Dyan-topo (or however it’s spelled) doesn’t look nice at all. Thankfully it’s dungeon tiles so I’m going to use your OCD/Cracker combo to be quick/lazy but wanted to at least learn

@richardokeeffe8375 I'd check your dyntopo settings, that's what I use to maintain sharp edges. The other option is to use the multiresolution modifier to help.

Is there any possibility of adding diamonds in a existing solid mesh stl.
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul Жыл бұрын
What do you mean by diamonds? As in the typical "diamond shape" (so a cube turned on its point) or do you mean something that looks like the gemstone?

@ArtisansofVaul Жыл бұрын
@InitiallyJB Ah, cool. So Blender makes this real easy for you! 👍🏻 Go to edit>preferences>addons and search for "extra object". One of the options will be something like mesh objects. Once you do that when you hit shift+a to add a new object look down the menu there. In one of the submenus there is one that will do exactly this. I think it might be "gems" or "diamonds", I can't remember exactly as I'm not in front of my computer.

@@ArtisansofVaul ok is it possible to remove the gemstone and leave the void for the gemstone for 3D printing purposes
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul Жыл бұрын
@InitiallyJB Yeah, you can just use a boolean to remove it. Though to be clear I don't know how accurate the mesh for the diamonds are to real diamonds cut types.

Can you do a tutorial on the best way to take a mesh object and give it volume in order to 3d print?
@XxHeManWomenHaterxX

Best way I’ve found is to make the object manifold or to add Solidify modifier; and export as STL. There is a 3D print addon that helps with validating the object.
@darrennew8211
@darrennew8211 Жыл бұрын
The 3d add-on is called "3d print toolbox." All the details are on Maker Tales youtube.
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by a "mesh object". As long as its manifold it should already be perfectly fine to print. As Darren has said using the inbuilt 3D-print toolbox will help check that and/or you can check it in microsofts 3D Builder.
