What a great, perfect tenurial. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I bought my 2016 Mazda 3 used in late 2017. The person who previously owned it apparently had spilled something over the command module thingy at some point causing the back and favorite buttons to no longer work. I didn't realize it until after I bought it and just learned to live without those two buttons. One day, I took it into the Mazda dealership for standard oil change and service and asked them to see if they could fix it. I was told they would have to replace it and gave me some ridiculous quote. So I went home and took some 90% Isopropyl Alcohol and dabbed it around the buttons with a small paint brush, filling in the cracks with it fairly heavy. Eventually, I got the buttons to move again, but it only lasted a short time before they were stuck again. Here we are a couple years later and I am detailing and giving my car a thorough cleaning and thought I'd look into fixing this again. Found your video and thought there's no way it could be that easy. Sure enough, following your instructions I was able to easily remove the center console and module and pop the buttons out for a thorough cleaning. I was surprised there really wasn't much gunk to remove, but enough that was acting like glue and holding the buttons in. Got it all cleaned up with some q-tips and Isopropyl alcohol and put back together and everything works perfectly now. So I had to come back to your video and give a big THANK YOU for this great tutorial!

Thank you so much for your video! My car is just back from the garage having had extensive repairs which included the handbrake. Took it for a drive only to find the infotainment controls weren’t working and hoped it was just a cable that hadn’t been re-connected rather than something wrong with the wiring. Quick search led me to your video. Followed your instructions and found that it was indeed the cable that hadn’t been reconnected. You have saved me another bill! Happy Days! 😎

How did u manage to wrap the silver trim ring I tired it’s so hard to wrap a circle without getting fingers and such in the vinyl
@nate86diy432 жыл бұрын
First of all the quality of the vinyl must be the better one. It is fairly easy actually, you just have to make sure you have an excess vinyl when wrapping the ring. When trimming the excess got to make sure that it is adhering. U got to clean the ring first though, no oil or dirt arond the surface. Lastly, post heating it.

@@nate86diy43 I’ve tried 3m vinyl worked amazing Then I went to lots of colors of vivid vinyl idk any experience with them? I know they r cheaper but not cheap cheap vinyl maybe I just suck lol I can never get edges to stick even after using degreaser or alcohol to clean Flat surfaces hell yah I can make perfect lol
@nate86diy432 жыл бұрын
@@joshymcdaniel9233 haha! Mine is 3M. I guess the next step is apply a vinyl adhesive. I think theres that vinyl spray that adds in more adhesive.. Tbh, I am even greater at flat surface. lol! wrapping like these ones are just for fun sake lol.

6:05 you forgot a whole step bro. Completely skipped over the part where you have to remove the shiny black plastic trim piece on the face of the unit. It’s a simple step I guess but I had to rewatch this part of the video a few times to understand what I had to do.

I bought a used mazda3 2018, the favorite button doesn't seem to work (it doesn't click in). Do you think if I disassemble the control panel I'd find the issue?

EDIT: I got it out. The black beveled ring on the top side must be removed. I ended up partially cracking it and bending one of the catch tab type things. Also did a partial knob disassembly itself and broke an inside part. Hopefully this thing will work fine when I put it back together heh. :) ORIGINAL: Hi! Thanks for this, I got everything you did already, even removing the black caps to the chrome knobs, except the big chrome knob removal. I tried pulling before thinking it would be like the volume knob but I was afraid I would break it. Tried again and got it with your vid. But what I want to know is how to remove the actual big control knob itself, not just the chrome topper. I've tried prying where I see a catch and at other places with little success, and I removed the screw on top. Do you know what's next? I'll keep trying but would appreciate your input if I don't get it before you reply if you do. My purpose is to clean out all the old soda/food/hair.
@nate86diy433 жыл бұрын
Glad I was of help with this. As for the big knob, it is a little difficult, there are small locks somewhere underneath that is kinda hard, luckily i did not bream anything, but for someone who is doing it the first time, ull end up worsening the damage.
@danielgoodman35783 жыл бұрын
@@nate86diy43 if by underneath you mean underneath the top beveled ring I mentioned in my edit, yeah it's a couple of catch tab things. If it's known where they are, I'm thinking maybe careful prying could avoid damage--you managed to avoid damage (great!).

@@erikromero9207 Assuming it's close to the same as this vid and mine, I'd say yes. However if you don't already know for sure, make sure whether that would be covered under warranty or not before you start disassembling it, if it came like that.
