My old faucet had a retaining nut that would not budge. Was the hardest thing to get out. I'll offer what I did in the hopes it helps someone: I rocked the top of the faucet out a bit and got bolt cutters into the space between the faucet and the basin, at the top. I cut the lines and rocked it back and forth until it separated it. It came out. Basin was untouched. Hope that helps someone.

Yeah, like who has mounting nuts that unscrew just finger tight? I ended it there and went to another video. Man, how do you get a lucky old faucet? I need one!

This video is a bit lightweight. I've never seen a old plumbing fixture that was this easy to take apart. One point in particular: maybe this is not true if you have the strength and skill of a real plumber, but if you're a DIY homeowner, a basin wrench will often be the difference between cleaning up the finished job for lunchtime and calling the plumber after shedding literal blood, sweat, and tears. Get a basin wrench!

Agreed. This video should be called "How to remove a late model bathroom faucet. Old fixtures don't come apart like this at the lock nut."

Exactly. Mine had some old fashioned pinch nuts on it. Nothing like what is shown in this video. It was the one thing I came here for.....

I couldn't get any pliers around it so I was able to get mine off using a flat head screwdriver against the part where you grab with your fingers and hammer it off.

I was able to remove my first faucet 😁 the only issue was that the water knobs wouldn't turn but I found another video that helped me get past that. Thanks so much for your tutorial.

Thank you for this video. 😀 If my faucet is not attached to the sink, but is coming out of my marble counter top - is it not possible for me to move the facet more forward? Is this ofcourse obviously not possible because the counter top has a specificically made hole for the facet to go through? The situation I have is whoever installed the facet put it too far back from the sink that water goes everywhere when you wash your hands or anything. Wondering if there is anyway to fix this. Thank you! 😀😀

What do you do when there is no room to use a slotted wrench to loosen the mounting nut? It’s too big for my basin wrench and i can’t find a bigger one.

To remove the mounting nuts, I sprayed it with WD40 first, then unscrewed it wearing padded workers gloves to ease the pressure in my finger tips.

Yeah. I can do everything except get those mounting nuts off, but it's too tight for my hand and too small for my wrenches. Came here looking for a solution. Guess I'll go look for a lucky four leaf clover.

Remove the hand turn nuts with a flat head screwdriver, and hammer it gently. It should just have to get a little turn and it will come loose.
@jillenabean3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your comment. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to remove my faucet. Or maybe I would’ve had to buy something expensive to do it. Using a flat head screwdriver and a hammer was just the ticket to loosen it enough for me to get it off.

@incarnadinelifestyle3 жыл бұрын
You may need to muscle it upward. A lot of time with these kinds of jobs you have to think outside the box. I may try using a rubber mallet underneath. Or using some sort of small hydraulic jack to lightly force it from place.

“If you are lucky” you can remove the mounting nuts by hand? The worst “how to” I have ever seen because it does not tell you how to do the important part: get those stuck nuts loose from a tight space.
