Absolutely brilliant, i'm starting to de-skin some panels now and this video has come at a perfect time. More videos like this please.

Thanks for sharing Howard. I’m just starting restoration of a Ford XW and I’ve got no experience doing any bodywork so this gives me some confidence in having a go based on what you’ve demonstrated.

I've got an old Dodge pickup I'm restoring that has a bonnet that looks like someone did a Mexican hat dance on. This may be the easiest way straighten it out. Great video, thanks!

Hi mate. Excellent video. I’ve watched this which I’m guessing is nearly the same as doing a door. Cheers.

I'm going to attempt this on a toyota trd scooped hood that was in a wrecked the hood skin Is pretty much perfect the bottom was bent in pretty bad. I was worried about tackling it. In my head it seemed like a fairly easy job I just had to witness someone else doing it.

Thanks for this video Howard. My XD bonnet is pretty good but the inside frame worries me. I've asked around and a few places sounded like they cut the frame loose n just reweld inside of the factory folded edge ?? Sounded extreme. I'm tempted to have a go at your method. Cheers, john 👍

I bought some front guard repair sections for a ford xc from them and they are really terrible. One is 10mm skinnier then the original and the curve and general shape of them are not even close. I can use them as a start and shape them up but I feel a bit ripped off. Are the repair panel sections you guys sell the same as the ones from rare spares? If they are of better quality I would like to know because I could save myself some effort if they fit better.

Hi, I do sell the odd Rarespares panel when no one else offers them. Our front fender lowers are from an Aust producer and are a pretty good panel. Still need a little work but cost effective

Thanks for this video it's a great help. I am about to start my xc bonnet and door skins. Do you use the same basic tools and method to remove the door skins as you have used here on the bonnet, the bent chisel, multi grips etc. I have watched your video on reinstalling a door skin but have not seen one where it was removed. Thanks again.

@@AstillDesign I'm working on a 61 Impala and a 65 Chevelle , both cars are notorious for condensation build up under the hoods, I can't find a hood for the Impala so I'm going to pull the structure and replace some metal on the skin and reassemble , I don't think I would have tried it without your video . thanks bud can't wait to see your next video

nice, doing an xc up with a gs bonnet it has original lock pins does this make it hard or just more spot welds to release? the bonnet is of a xb gs rally pack.
@howardastill6203 жыл бұрын
The pin indents are part of the skin, will all come off together. you can undo the tack welds if you want to remove the inner cup.

Your spot weld drills are not very good. I have one that looks like a mini holesaw with a spring loaded centre. I just find the centre of the spot weld and drill a dimple and let the little saw cut the outside edges of the weld. It comes apart without a chisel and all you do is grind the slug off. They are a cheap chinese product but they are awesome.😉
