Thanks a bunch - just pressed out two bronze bearings from my lathe gearbox with your method - will still need to press new ones in but I'll cross that bridge later.

I know this has been up for years, still a good tip. I use an inexpensive harbor freight bushing/seal kit as the push piece. Cheap enough and aluminum so you can easily reduce the size a bit if needed.

Steve S I've seen it too, and ciladog was the channel where I saw it at when I was rebuilding my Atlas TH54, as he did several very good videos about rebuilding his Atlas lathe. Sadly I haven't seen him in about a year, so I hope he's just taken a break from making videos and that nothing bad has happened to prevent that. He was one of my 1st Tube-Teachers, and I'd hate to think he was ill or had passed on. I'll just imagine he's busy as can be with his cabinet making work. To install I have not tried this, for this application to instal it is pretty easy to use a piece between the fork to support the casting. Usually removal in this type of situation is the difficult part.

Ah, I see. I understand that must be easier. Today I bought a used motor mount. I'm going to learn how to remove and install a new bushing into it.
