This is my method for rebushing a classic mini small bore primary gear. This is for the later 850 engines with the 1.5inch tail crankshaft

Top class finish there Mr Dodd. Love the cylinder head stud chisel. Mine is made from a valve stem from a CAT 3408 👍

To be fair the valve stem would be better material, the head stud works but only just hard enough.

Just found your video as I am having to refurbish one and the front bushing you can also buy from minispares and they may have been out of stock of them at the time you was trying to get them they do the original replacement bush or a floating bush for it

I just checked the website they don’t list the front bushing (press fit type for a small bore gear). If you watch part 1 all the way through you will see I list the options on a supply of this bush. I also show how to remove them

The front bushing is from what material ? It is still Deva or general bronze ?
@ACDodd

I can supply both original DEVA (very expensive - the material and labour cost to make a single bushing will cost the same as rebushing a normal primary, then you need to add the cost of fitting) and the type of bronze in use here in this video for the front bushing is my own selection and has been tried and used in many applications. It is also unsuitable to be used for the rear bushing. It not DEVA metal. The gears I restore have two different materials for front and rear bushes.

@@ACDodd In my case I purchased two top hat bushes, and from one of them I removed the flange. That one became the first bush (engine side of primary gear). Was it a bad idea? The car is a standard 998 and runs without issues.

@@csakbencee no not a bad idea, as I mentioned in the video Specialist components do just that. See how it runs, usually you need more running clearance than the original factory bushes to avoid seizing. This can take quite some time to happen
