+Dave Johnson, I cannot reply to your comment for some reason so I hope you see this. Thanks for the comment! The door lock actuator rod snapped in the white plastic piece really tight. I tried to pop it out but it wouldnt. In retrospect I should have used a zip tie just to ensure no future problems. I did not think of it at the time because it was in there nice and tight.

A fun and easy video down the road might be a window motor and regulator replacement. There are plenty of them on KZbin but none from a guy using basic hand tools in north Jersey! In typical fashion of going all out maybe you could mod a vehicle to have all auto powered windows to give it that extra certified Chrisfix touch! Thanks for all you've done. You've given me so much confidence over the years to tackle my problems head-on instead of paying insane prices for someone else to do it for me and assuming it wasnt something I could have just done myself on a Saturday afternoon. I've saved thousands on my car and hope for tens of thousands more smiles per gallon!

best video of this task that I have seen .. brief, straightforward, talking is limited to the task itself (no personal yak about self or unrelated topics). Well done ! and THANK YOU ! I'm of the generation when speaker covers simply popped off or had their own screws. Am annoyed I have to remove so much stuff just to change a speaker, but your video has made that task so much easier without me breaking something

I would add to your well explained video to secure the linkage rod in the plastic retainer clip with something like a tiny cable tie or if you have heat shrink tubing then slide a 2" length of tubing over the plastic retainer, past where the linkage connects. Then connect the linkage and slide the heat shrink back up and over the connection. Heat with a hair dryer or heat gun and never have to worry about it popping out again. Thanks for the detailed video.

Bloody smashing video :-)) Loved the red dot locators, extra work at the editor stage but very clever :-) Thats a nice vehicle, i can see why you were being carefull with the soft coated tools method, the pro tool looks nice but i dont think many people would have such a thing, but it would be worth buying one for such a nice car. A wallpaper scraper or putty knife may be what people might have :-) I see a extra fix for your car, where that vertical rod clips into the plastic, fit a single cable tie around the plastic form to stop the rod ever popping out again :-))
@chrisfix10 жыл бұрын
zx8401ztv Thanks bud. I am trying to up my game lol. I had to think of the dialog and stuff before the video to show that, but I am glad it was worth the effort! I normally dont use specialized tools but I really hate breaking the panel clips, especially the specialized ones which are a dollar a piece. So a $6 panel clip pliers is worth it for me (compared to the screw driver or puddy knife idea). I did mention you can use a screw driver, but I was not taking the chances lol. The zip tie thing is a great idea! I should have thought of that!!!

Very, very good and timely, finding exactly what I needed as I was wondering how to open the panel with the least possible damages. Thank you ChrisFix for sharing it. -- Now I am able to go for the 2nd step... -- My driver's power window (Toyota RAV4 2004) has a weird behavior: It opens normally but if I try to close it within just a few minutes after opening, it will only close partially and stop. I then have to wait a few minutes more and try again, then it will close completely. Sometimes it gets really stubborn and makes me wait like 4-5 min to close completely again. It looks like some faulty electronic component but I can't tell yet. I will try and investigate (now that I can open it [lol] ) but in the meantime maybe anyone would have some hint... ? Thanks again Chris and anyone else who may help. Regards from Brazil.

sgian Awesome! Glad the video was helpful! Is the door jam gap the same size all the way around the door? Does the door close evenly?
@sgian9 жыл бұрын
ChrisFix Chris, I am not sure I get it... it is not the door...the door is working fine... I refer to the driver power window. When I try to close it soon after opening, it usually goes up but stops in the middle... then I have to wait a few minutes, try again and it closes. Sometimes I have to try a few times until it completes. Once in a while when I try to close it, it goes up almost all the way but backs down to the middle and stops... thanks again!
@chrisfix9 жыл бұрын
sgian The window might be off the track or the connection to the window motor might be loose or going bad or the motor itself is going bad. That is why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

Lock/Unlock is working ok, but only for 3 doors, but for main driver door, I have to unlock it with the key, it is not responding from the remote or the central lock/unlock button, as 3 others doors. What do you think?? each door got that motor mecanism think or is it 1 motor for the 4 doors.

Great video. Door panels freak me out or any plastic piece on a car interior. How do you repair scratched or scuffed interior panels and trim ?
@chrisfix9 жыл бұрын
Recklessly Arrogant Dont be too freaked out. If you take your time you will be good to go! To remove any scratches you can use some 600 grit sandpaper depending on the texture of the plastic piece. If it is smooth, dont do sand it. If it is textured you can smooth the scratch out.

Hi Chris, great video! HELP!! I'm writing regarding an Australian model Rav4 (2005 I think? ..I'll check later..) ..anyway today I, embarrassingly, made a (potentially very costly) mistake with my wifes' Rav4! To cut a long story short: I thought the car was Securely PARKED facing up a slope and the front passenger door was wide open, however the handbrake failed whilst there was solid, heavy, fixed object between the open door and the car AND THEN THE CAR ROLLED BACKWARD before I could put my foot on the brake Which meant the door hyper - flexed backward beyond the hinge range and jammed and torsioned the hinges in the process I think!! After much effort, this means the door now shuts and opens ok (eventually!) But now only opens to about 50 degrees and the electric window (which was down at the time of the accident) now only can close half way! As the electrics are obviously still working fine for it to move at all, do you think I should use your video to try to see what is mechanically disrupting the line of passage of the window, as well as what condition the hinges are in?! Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Mark
@chrisfix9 жыл бұрын
stolky19 Hey Mark. Do you notice that the door is wavy? Like when you close the door and look down the body of the RAV4, does it look slightly dented? It sounds like you might have bent the door so the window track got bent and the window wont roll up.

Great video, as usual, Chris. My Rav rear driver side door can't be controlled like the other 3 doors, with the key or control pad on the driver's door. Could it be the actuator's fault, cuz wiring seems fine.
@chrisfix10 жыл бұрын
