Great tip ... Thank you! A bit of anti seize compound or grease on the replacement bolt should stop the problem from happening again in the future.

Another good tip. I've had bad luck with easy outs breaking in the past but I've never tried using them to transfer the heat to the stuck bolt. It's a great idea. I'm sure the heat helps wick the penetrating fluid into the threads. Thanks for the video. Much appreciated.

very wise Sidney, if more people did this to many of the bolts and hinges and areas prone to rusting they would never have to worry about it again. thank you for the great comment.

I did not use a torch to get this to work (didn't have one on hand). I had tried with the smallest easyout bit, and it did bite onto the stuck bolt, but did not budge whatsoever (18v makita brushless). I drilled out the screw further until I was able to get the next easyout bit to grab onto the metal (initially it would just spin as it was not contacting enough surface area. I still had to use the maximum torque on the drill, but it finally came out. If you are facing a similar issue as me, I would suggest trying to drill out the screw a little more, until you can use a larger bit that will contact more surface area.

I've got a very tight nut in my engine bay that is pretty much a circle and I only have top down view of it. Will the easy out stick to the side of the bolt for me to put pressure downwards instead of spinning it out?

Wished I had found this sooner. Happened to a used Prius I purchased. I did the first part but then the extractor didn't budge it and I was afraid it would have snapped inside. Didn't think about heating it so I whacked the screw from the inside and the round housing that held it popped off along with the seized end of the bolt. What can I do now? Thinking of using a bolt and nut and screw it but if and when I sell the car I would have to remove the vinyl plastic in the trunk again to access the nut. Pls help!

Most screws never break off flat like that, anyway, you have to grind the screw flat (if needed) and use cobalt drill bits, many screws / bolts are soft metal but if you run into a hardened one you can drill all you want with a regular drill bit, it ain't going nowhere unless you have a cobalt drill bit. As far as heating it up, I will try that next time!

I didn't try heading with the torch. But, my easy out broke leaving a bit of piece inside. I didn't even put much pressure. I used Irwin Hanson screw extractor instead of easy out. May be that's not good quality. Now, I have to figure out how to deal with that.
@SweetProjectCars2 жыл бұрын
Well you may be in luck, one thing about screw extractors and easy-outs is that they are very hard and brittle so take one of these amzn.to/3U4ZYGo use the smallest one possible for your situation and start chiseling and busting out the easy-out. Once you get the easy-out out of there, you are definitely going to have to heat up the busted bolt red hot, then use another screw extractor. If you do not want to heat it up, you may need to take one of these amzn.to/3FMkpnZ in the appropriate size, it's the only thing that will take the bolt out then you will have to re-tap the hole with the appropriate threads. You are basically drilling out the busted bolt, larger, then just re-thread. Hope this helps Jitansu, have a great week and all the best on your project. mad Mike the hammer SPC

I have a Lexus IS 250 2008. I only saw this video AFTER I started using my drill bits to drill the screw and now I think I completely went into the threads. The screws are broken and not coming out at all. What should I do if I have ruined the threads?
@SweetProjectCars2 жыл бұрын
If you've ruined the threads, you will have to drill the holes larger with the appropriate drill bit and re-tap threads back into it, use this amzn.to/3rUJogo Hope this helps Kevin, thank you for watching and asking, have a great day and all the best on your project my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC

I don’t understand. Wouldn’t heat EXPAND the frozen bolt making it even more stuck? What is the heat doing?
@SweetProjectCars16 күн бұрын
The heat is breaking the bond on the rusted parts, there's nothing more potent and almost 100% guaranteed to break a nut/bolt loose than getting it red-hot! Thanks, have a great day. mad Mike

It's a Toyota mess. I have yet to see a video of a seized license plate screw from a different car brand. Everything I'm clicking on is of a Toyota. Cheap engineering. All they have to do was using a plastic insert instead of leaving it metal on metal
