Had this happen tonight and this is the first video that popped up. Worked like a charm. Thank you
@sharonrigs7999 Жыл бұрын
I do it hydraulically, much easier! 1.Place muzzle end on soft surface topped with a thick plastic bag 2. Fill up bore and chamber with water 3. Position dowel in chamber mouth. I use an undersized dowel with a couple of O rings on the end. 4. Whack dowel and enjoy an unobstructed bore. This is particularly useful with rifle barrels

Love this, thank you. Good idea if there is no direct access from the chamber end

Never had this happen, but this week was the first time I had a shell casing expand and get stuck in the receiver (the bullet was gone). Same fix after talking to an expert, worked like a charm.

Is it better to go front to back or back to front?
@Colt92013 күн бұрын
Front to back, so it doesn’t expand more when tapping it out.

Brass rods in various diameters, usually one foot or three foot lengths are available at many 'big box' general work stores like Ace Hardware, Home Depot or Menards (in my locale). I prefer the brass, threaded rod. Stronger than wood, softer than the steel of the barrel and cheap. 3/8 inch diameter will fit into a 9mm or .358" barrel and is strong enough for jacketed bullets in .45 caliber. Also get a 1/8 inch diameter rod for 22's and such. Pistol length - ten inches or so - are small enough and light enough to fit in a range bag. The speaker did make the point (bless his heart) to drive out the bullet the short distance. Most stuck handgun bullets I've encountered are closer to the chamber end; but that is not a universal law of the Cosmos. With an autopistol, once the bullet is driven into the chamber it is free of the rifled part and loose. Driving a bullet out the muzzle end requires arranging a place for the bullet to go. Similar for revolvers except do not take the barrel out. Close the cylinder and drive the bullet back into the chamber (and empty case if need be; cases are cheap).

Use wood when possible (hardwood dowel rods) . Rifling at muzzle is critical for accuracy
@jumpercable203 жыл бұрын
Most gunsmiths will tell you that when removing anything from the barrel to always go in the direction of the bullet to prevent damage to rifling. Although in this case with the bullet so close to the end of the barrel, I wonder if a gunsmith would have done the same thing. I also have SCCY 9 and it's had hundreds of rounds without a single fault, I'm sure there are SCCY haters out there that will find a way to make it the pistols fault.

Correct me if i have incorrect information but the shell is not smaller than the barrel, its slightly larger in diameter. Or eere you referring to something else

Color me STUPID as I know what a squib load is and what it can do. Still I lost a finger or at least most of one just two weeks ago on my support hand of my 9mm PDW pistol. I thought I had a failure to feed as I did not hear (due to having hearing protection on)when in fact the primer did detonate without any powder in the cartridge. I jacked another round inside the chamber and did not see the empty case eject. At this juncture it would have been easy to unload the weapon and check the barrel and save the finger. I knew to do that and still cannot understand why I did not do it. COLOR ME STUPID and less a finger !

If you get a click instead of a bang you should ALWAYS check for a squib load, NOT re-rack and shoot. 1. Keep it pointed down range. Wait 30 seconds, in case it’s a hang fire, then... 2. Eject your magazine, clear and check the case, then (if necessary)... 3. Check the barrel. If you follow this procedure, it’s the same for misfire, hang fire, and squib load. EVERY TIME. Always assume a hang fire, they’re rare, but…

I use wooden dowels, less chance of scratching the barrel insides
@rbm61844 жыл бұрын
Rudy Ruiz Cleaning rods are fine. Soft alloy aluminum or brass cleaning rods are not going to scratch a harder steel bore. Although wooden dowels work fine also if you happen to have one.
@DeaconParsons4 жыл бұрын
@@rbm6184 You would have damaged a cleaning rod if the bullet had been farther in the barrel. (Been there, done that) Unless you have an extra joint of rod you never want to use again, get as large a dowel as will fit into the barrel. Less likely to drive through a cast bullet, applies force over a larger area and much cheaper to replace.
@notrightmeow33574 жыл бұрын
Craft or model shops will have wooden dowel that will help you out with this. I have some in my tool box for this very issue.

Does squibs happen more often with reloaded rounds or manufactured rounds?
@antoniavie Жыл бұрын
100% on reloaded ammo. Never had factory ammo give me a squib. It's always been my fault not checking to see if powder is in the case (distracted, door bell, phone ringing). And it's always on the multistage reloading press.

@@antoniavieJust had Armscor 38 give a squib load today and I cannot get it out of the barrel no matter what I do this is so frustrating
@antoniavieАй бұрын
@@iamhappyso Just take a brass rod and hammer it out. Make sure the slide is secured in a vice or on something rigid. It's always 100% going to come out, because the bullets are lead, softer than the brass rod and the hard steel barrel.
@iamhappysoАй бұрын

@antoniavieАй бұрын
@@iamhappyso Maybe you have two bullets stuck in the barrel? Then you will need a long self tapping screw you put over a washer or two over from the front end of the barrel and try to screw it into the bullet to pull one out. Then you normally can tap out the second.

I've had it happen once, but with a reload (I didn't reload them). Mine was stuck just about the same distance in the barrel. I heard the primer pop and luckily had almost no felt recoil, so the gun didn't cycle to feed the next round. was not a happy camper

Forest Winter...same darn thing happened to me today. Was using reloads a buddy had. I am curious if there can be any barrel damage if I take it out or better to see a gunsmith. 🤔
@forestwinter10214 жыл бұрын
@@obe0540 I keep a brass rod with rounded corners in my bag and used it to drive the bullet out. So long as you don't scrape the barrel or crush it in a vise, I imagine you'd have a hard time damaging your barrel. Just take it slow if your comfortable doing it, or to a gunsmith if you aren't. =)

I found your video, it is a topic that I have warned all my friends about and I have passed it along to them. There is just one thing that grates on me (and I know I am being pedantic), but you didn't have a 'round' stuck in the barrel. You had a bullet, a projectile a slug. A round of fixed ammunition is by definition: "A round is a single cartridge containing a projectile, propellant, primer and casing." Otherwise great video.
