How to Remove a STUCK Sterndrive CORRECTLY!

IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM.... Ok so I have to admit my wife found your video, and I have to admit this is awesome!!! My gimble bearing was stuck onto the shaft so it came out along with the drive. So there is no way it would budge but this process made it come out super easy. I used a 5 1/4 2x4 then a 5 3/4 long 2x4 to finish. Awesome!!! I also updated my hydraulic trim with remote cable too. Thanks for that as well....

Excellent!! I did that a few months ago in puerto vallarta Mexico, a had a really stuck sterndrive. It took me 2 days until I almost gave up, when I was about to move the engine I sat on the ground, I was having a beer because it was very hot and it occurred to me to use the hydraulic system to my advantage. it really works just make sure you lock the upward movement and have a second person help you with the trim button

Thanks for your tips man!! I have a Bayliner too. A 2001 Bayliner Capri 2150 with the 5.0 so basically same boat! I changed my impeller while the drive was still on it but now i wanna pull the drive to inspect the bellows.

I already had lower unit off.Was doing a service on hoses and water pump.A floor jack with 2ft 2 x4 works well just pump it up on the upper drive behind where water pump hose is.Mine was so jammed it was picking trailer up.Your technique modified for my situation worked perfect.

Very helpful! Thanks man! It’s 110 degrees here, I’m having a couple Coronas and waiting for it to cool off a bit then I’m going back out there and remove the speedo and see if that’s why it’s stuck. It is an old boat so hopefully everything isn’t all shitty in there.

You my friend are a genius! I’ve been wrestling to get this drive off for the last hour and making no progress. Used your technique and had it off in seconds. Awesome 👌🏻 I did it by hand though to put less load on the gimble ring - removed ramps and lifted the drive up using the wooden fulcrum and out it popped

Thanks for the great tip. Your technique will come in handy in a few weeks, when I remove my B3 drive. I fought with it last year, but hopefully this year will be easier.

What do you do if it don’t pop off ? We have one that we have tried everything on including building a rig to mount around the the outdrive housing and hook a come along to to hook to the shaft itself . It will not release from the motor . Any ideas ?

About to do this on my 92' Alpha One GenII. Would it be wise to leave the nuts on but backed off to get the first pop with out the out drive dropping or damaging anything?

Never tried this, but I suppose it would be okay... sometimes it still tends to hang up beyond that point, but worst case is you try it and its not enough and then you remove the nuts and pop it off the rest of the way.

Now can you help with a stuck Trim cylinder pin? Rear on an Alpha one Gen 2? Its been in there for nearly 17 years. One owner boat 119 hours but no service in 17 years.... Very stuck in place.
