How to remove an aftermarket car alarm or remote car starter from ANY car!
The vehicle in this video is a 1st Generation Honda CR-V
If you have purchased a used vehicle and you are here, you have probably encountered an issue with previously installed electronics on your new to you vehicle. Sometimes car alarms can have a mind of their own. You may ask your self "why does my car alarm keep going off", or you may be stranded because of your car alarm. I have decided to make a video showing you how to successfully remove such electronic components with ease and straight forward directions. If you watch the video and have further questions, leave them in the comments and I'd be happy to help you out.

@acypooder1 check for a toggle switch some near the kick panel or under the dash. A lot of times these are installed but not really discussed work the customer and they can sometimes accidentally get kicked. If you find it, flip the switch and try the remote start.

Great video. This helped me very much. Had purchased a 2012 Rav4 that had an aftermarket alarm installed. Sadly the only thing I had to "disable" it was a valet button but still wasn't sure on brand and all that. I finally tackled tracing the wiring for that to the main hub and so forth. Thankfully whoever installed it did it professionally and all I had to do was unplug the wires from the jumps and that was it. Done and done. Thank you again for this video and the helpful explanations of all that you pointed out.

My 2010 tundra remote start viper alarm system finally took a dump. I couldn’t start my truck…I saw a fuse sticking out of a cable coming from a big black box that said Viper on it, I pulled out the fuse…..My truck starts now. Usually there is a red wire that has a fuse on it. If it is an alarm only, then you will have a small red wire with a fuse, usually a red ten amp fuse. If you have a remote start you will usually have two large red wires with green 30 amp fuse. You will pull those fuses if you can find them. Let me know if that helps or if you have more questions.

Great video with tons of good information. But I have a question you might be able to help out on a 2009 nissan rogue remote start with immobilizer how do I put the immobilizer back to factory right now it starts engine with key in ignition only so I want to remove it because I can't even unlock the car doors with the remotes. I don't know why the remotes stop working and car alarm sets off. I was able to pull a fuse of the aftermarket remote start but now my remotes don't open or lock doors but by pulling that fuse I can start car with key, at least I'm not stuck. Any suggestions as far as removing and getting the controls to work on original immo of car. Oh and this was a nissan installation first when the car was bought back in 2009. Thank you.

@DCAutoEnhancement 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. If you can get some information off of the equipment that was installed I can look into how it is integrated into your car. Usually it isn't too difficult to put back to original but sometimes you do have to cut factory wires and wire the bypass in-line on factory wires. But, if you can, get me some info and I'll see what I can do for you.

I have a 91 Caddy brougham . It has a very old alarm installed. Battery went dead several times now i think alarm wont allow car to start. I tried kill switch buttons nothing. If i cut that starter kill relay wired you should and connect wires without relay would that work to start the car again? Or i have to remove whole alarm system like you did?
@DCAutoEnhancement
@DCAutoEnhancement 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, if you find a relay attached to either a purple wire or a yellow wire, cut the relay out and re attach the original wire to get it to start. Removing the alarm completely may be desired because it can cause lights to flash and possibly a horn or siren to sound

Hello, Very nice video, I am investigating an intermittent dead battery. Could the aftermarket alarm play a role in this. 04 crv.
@DCAutoEnhancement
@DCAutoEnhancement 7 ай бұрын
Yes, that can be a cause. Look up how to find a parasitic draw. That will help you determine if it is the alarm or something else. You will need to know how to use a digital multi meter. Or you can just remove the aftermarket alarm and see if that takes care of the problem. What I would do first though, is take the vehicle to a place like AutoZone and have the battery tested.

Great video. Having a little trouble with my 04 pilot. I disconnected all the wires from underneath the dash. Now it won't start. There is another box that is Saturday into my OBD2 and I haven't removed it. Could that be what's not letting the car start. I bought a new harness to go on the back of the key and tumbler to plug into the main fuse box. So that's all new. Just wondering if there is something I should be looking for. Also I cannot seem to locate the starter relay so I'm not sure if that might be the issue. Because I am not getting power to the starter and I checked the starter signal fuse and it's good. Most times a remote start doesn't have a starter kill relay but it is possible. Look for a relay that is connected to a heavy gauge wire that has been cut and a relay installed where the wire is cut. If you have that, simply unhook those wires from the relay and connect the wire back together.

If it was dealer installed it should have been a t harness the last one I helped remove, there is a connection at the ignition switch under the column and then a connection behind the knee bolster. If it is an aftermarket one there will be a relay that has two wires coming out of it going to a single factory wire which would be the starter wire. If that's the case, you can just cut the two wires and attach them. If you need more guidance, let me know and I can get you some contact info

Any idea if these after market alarms can cause fuel pump problems?
@DCAutoEnhancement
@DCAutoEnhancement Жыл бұрын
Aftermarket alarms or remote starts should not affect the fuel pump in any way. The only way they could potentially interact is with a remote start. When the ignition is energized, the fuel pump primes. I don't see an aftermarket unit actually causing an issue. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching

Yes, if you know you want to replace the alarm or remote start, it can be helpful to leave them so you can use them in the future. You also shouldn't need to tape them up. I knew that I wasn't going to be reinstalling anything on this vehicle but if I did, I would be soldering my connections.

Not usually, these aftermarket alarms usually do not interfere with original wiring. However some cars have different wire types for their door locks requiring relays that are installed at a break in the wire or the wiring goes through the alarm. I paid someone to install a car alarm with a kill switch etc. When I turn on my car I saw that they put a really thick gauge wire which gets extremely hot(touching it burns me), I've cut it and the horn would not stop until I reconnected it. @DCAutoEnhancement 9 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, you will most likely want to disconnect the alarm all together. You will want to find the main fuse for the alarm, usually found in under the dash. If you have just an alarm, you will be looking for a red 10 amp fuse on a small red wire. If you have a remote start, you will be looking for two green 30 amp fuses on two large red wires. In some cases, you will find all three fuses that need removed. I hope this helps.

If they are T-taps, you can leave them but I prefer to remove them and place electrical tape on the wire where the T-taps cut into the insulation. If the connectors are scotch locks, remove them for sure. If you don't know the difference you can Google them and compare the images.

Trace the starter wire, usually there is a starter kill relay that interrupts the starter wire.
