If I’m just removing the stovetop, and keeping the oven, do I still need to remove oven first?

Probably yes, I can't see how you are going to remove the stovetop without removing the oven. Only way possible is to remove oven first to access the wiring so you can disconnect the stovetop. Hope that helps.

Another video I've watched showed a silicon seal holding a hob in being removed then the hob lifted out without removing the oven. Never having fitted one I always assumed they would be bolted into the worktop. We live and learn.

@@neilmorgan2273 that's true, that's a possibility too. Best thing to do is remove the silicone around the hob then you will find out if it can be removed like you described.
