I understand this video is 2 years old. But the clunking is almost 9/10 times the oilpump drivegear pin. Xj600 had the wrong size pin from factory. I think it was 5mm. You can change it to 5.5mm then the sound has to be gone. Note: it doesn't damage the engine in any way.
@Calvinm Жыл бұрын
Yes I also suspect that was the source of the noise as well. Thanks for confirming this for other XJ owners 👍

Fellow divy owner here: The clunking noise could be a clutch pin noise, and almost every diversion get's this noise after a while. It's nothing to be worried about but it can be fixed albeit not really worth it. The way you can check this is by pulling the clutch and seeing if the clunking disappears. The misfire you see is what my bike also has. It just seems to be something divy's are also notorious for. When cold they just don't like revving. Just let it warm up a minute or so and keep a bit of choke when driving off. Anyways very good bike, these are very reliable and can run up to a 100.000 miles when taken good care of.

Thanks for the great insights! I'm gonna look more into this clutch pin situation, but I'm glad it isn't catastrophic.

If you're ever going to pop open the clutch case, check the primary drive as well (aka the first on the top right corner that transfers power from primary chain to clutch basket, oil pump etc). If you notice any play on the nut securing the gear, tap out the safety clip, remove the nut, check threads, apply some oil-resistant titelock on the threads and tighten the nut back to 60nm(if i remember correctly) and tap the safety clip back in it's place. I have XJ600 '95 with over 43k miles on it and last time changing clutch plates on it I noticed some play and googled it. Noise was gone after that. Clutch basket rattle can also be improved by fine-tuning your carbs before you start to hammer bigger pin into the socket it was meant for ;)
@stevethompson850410 ай бұрын
The rattle at low revs is from the clutch cover rattling .you need to put a slightly larger locating pin in there and it then should go away . Common fault .

The reason for those screws wanting to strip on the carbs is that they arent phillips and rather are JIS so slightly different heads.

The rattling noise that you noticed at low idle might be the signature clutch rattle on this bike. I saw another video saying that it’s a very common problem with this clutch on this specific bike. There’s like a five dollar fix for it where you put a pin in somewhere in the clutch. Sorry I’m not more help lol but I’m sure you could find the video if you just searched clutch rattle for this tear/make/model. Maybe it was even your video that you made after this lol I don’t know… Just throwing it out there.

@@Calvinm only 25k miles, had to replace all fuel lines, fuel Filter, now the carbs are leaking as I was trying to start it. Guess I have to clean the carbs like in the video after all …
@stevethompson850410 ай бұрын
My friend has been having trouble with his new fuel pump same model as yours but a lot more beat up the fuel pump basically rejects fuel out of a small hole with a ball in it the points to the right side out of the pump whilst it's running and we can't figure out why it's doing that but it's constant and all we can come up with is to block the hole up. The bike other than that seems to run fine .
@tomor79903 жыл бұрын
It seems to me the fuel tap is leaking on your bike, you can buy a rebuild kit for 20$, so not a big deal, but since it gets the vacuum from cylinder 1, when the diaphragm breaks thru it can flood that cylinder. Greetings from Europe (a Divi owner)
@Calvinm3 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks for the great insight! I’ll order a kit and see if that helps. Happy riding!

Carburetor and throttle cleaner. Or you could use brake clean, it just isn't as kind to the plastic and rubber parts.

@Calvinm2 жыл бұрын
Yes, if I recall correctly the spec for the pilot air screw is 1.5 turns from seated. Basically snug up the air screw under then back it off 1.5 turns. Good luck!

I know the likleyhood of a reply is low but i need help💀 I took out the idle screw without thinking and only realised it when i threw the carbs back on the back, im scared to try and fire it up as i dont what to set it to, i dont wanna redline my back for idle as i start it. Same bike btw its just my carbs are the u.s
@Calvinm11 ай бұрын
I think you’re referring to the adjustment in the centre of the carb rack near the cables. I don’t have an exact amount of turns to tell you but what I would recommend is to dial in the adjustment with the filter off so you can see the throttle plates. When you see the throttle plates open just a crack stop. Leave the adjustment there and the bike won’t rev to red line but will get a little extra air. Guess and check, refine and adjust. Good luck!

I have an issue with my 96 model. It will rev up perfectly in neutral, pulls just fine in 1st gear, but then in 2nd it stumbles at about 7-8k, and just immediately stops accelerating, and starts to backfire violently. This gets progressively worse the higher the gear, and the current top speed is about 70mph, because it can't pull past 6k in 6th gear. It does not help to roll off the throttle like if the mains were too big, nothing changes. What do you think could be the issue? PS if I just hold the throttle open at that point where it stops accelerating, it will eventually stop backfiring for a second, then resume the backfire, then stop momentarily.
