Watched this video to make sure I did my replacement correctly. However my bearings we VERY hard to remove (just front pass. Side) I used everything from punches large screw driver and pry bars. The magic tool that broke it loose..... a small hatchet and mini sledge hit top corners and then bottom sprayed lubricant (WD-40) and tada

Hey Brandon. Mine was just like yours I'm thinking. Maybe a little worse. I had the WD40 but didn't have the tada. Maybe next time. Guna get a bearing puller then maybe some Tada.

Thank you for a very well done and informative video! Unlike many you took the time to give torquing specs, bolt sizes, and sensor removal/attachment. And the presentation was concise, unlike most of these videos. You gave me all the information I need to feel good about replacing the left front hub & bearing assembly on my 2012 Caravan. Keep up to awesome work!

I own an '09 Caravan. I did both front bearings the first time, in 2017. OMG it was hard!!! Make sure you clean everything after the bearing is out, and use AntiSeize liberally, prior to installing the new part. Will make it MUCH EASIER for next time. Also, from experience, the aftermarket bearings suck. Use original MOPAR bearings. They're expensive, but will last a long time.

My o3 caravan has a different looking transaxle with large fins on the outside end making it impossible to get even a box end wrench on the 15 mm bolts. I have doubts that a open end wrench is going to loosen them. Any ideas?

How do you know if you need a hub bearing ????
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay, one of the veyr first signs is the ABS light being on. The next is the most obvious, a roaring noise on either side of the front wheels. It's an annoying sound that once it gets worse, you would not want to drive the vehicle!

@@jaywalker3553 , that's a possibility although I haven't seen that and I've dealt with at least 50 hub bearing jobs. They typically start to roar and ultimately seize up. If I was there, I could tell you instantly what it is. Thanks,

Got a noise that starts at 35.. pretty sure it is the front left wheel bearing. Thank you for making the video. I use these mostly for "Do I want to do this job" I have the car scheduled to go in in 6 days to a great mechanic that doesnt overcharge me. Im going to let him do this job I think. Last time I changed the breaks I broke a similar bolt on the caliper mount.. had to buy a new one. Dumb.. but yea.. cost 15 bucks extra.

Tips for removal of the hub. Similar to the tierod hammer trick: thread a bolt or two partially in the back. Let the bolts stick out so there’s space between the bolt head and the steering knuckle. Turn the steering wheel accordingly for as much working room as possible. Hit the bolts with a hammer and it’s like tapping the hub out rather than trying to pry it at an uneven and odd angle

I have found that putting a 14ish inch pipe wrench on the wheel flange and using that for leverage can break them loose, and if they are real stubborn, hit the pipe wrench with a 3lb hammer.

Extra points for all the torque specs at 13 and a half minutes. This video is one of the best that I found and it is only missing one step that I'm not even sure how important it is. The first step on other videos is to remove the negative terminal as you'll be disconnecting the ABS plug. I'm not really sure if it's an issue on the condition that you don't have the ignition on however. Perhaps if you have to turn on the ignition to change the steering wheel angle this could potentially cause it disconnect. That being said again this video has all the detail necessary to complete this process.

Detroit Axle (Ebay)....The best car parts online shop ever!

Fixing to do mine, had a shop that left my lugnuts loose (Toby's Alignment in Palatka Fla) and it ruined my lugnuts, my rim's and I'm thinking probably my hubs to so I have to replace it all to be sure ya know. Then when the axxwipe put on my inner/outer tie rods he didn't even push the boot on right OR add the fastening straps to keep it from sliding. Knowing I was making a trip to upstate NY during snowing season in Feb 2020 he ASSURED me everything was good. Yep u guessed right, snow and salt all in my rack & pinion. I noticed it all when I got back to Fla when my wheels were kinda wobbly. Yeah, almost a grand out the freaking window I've never been so pissed!

Hi Dave, yeah that sucks! Some shop. I wish I were near you, I'd help you for free. These so-called "shops" are something else. However, There are MANY amazing shops out there.

Hi Brendan, is there anyway you can use an angle grinder with a metal cutting wheel and cut it off? A sawzall with a metal cutting blade will also work. Let me know. Thanks,

My dodge grand caravan front wheel tire lugs getting burning hot even after little ride..changed all front brakes roters and callipers from dealership.callieper was jammed.but still lugs are hot..cant evn touch them.told the dealership but tech said its normal.i know its not .is this issue with bearing?any idea.

Sorry for the pate response. This definitely can be an issue with your hub bearing IF, the bearing is bad in which will be extremely noticeable because it's seizing up. If that's the case, you should hear a roaring sound coming from the wheels. It's an awful sound. It's like driving while pressing the brakes at the same time.

How much will that cost to repair?
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY 4 жыл бұрын
The hub bearing will cost you about $60. I am not sure if you're doing the job yourself. But if you find a mechanic, it should cost $100-$125 for labor. Maybe cheaper.

How would I know if it's the wheel bearings
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, when your hub bearing goes bad or is going bad, there are two things that can help you identify the bad hub. The first thing is the ABS light. Although it's not a great indicator, it can help with diagnosing the hub. The method I've used for hundreds of hubs replaced is, listening for a roaring sound on either side. The only thing about that is sometimes it's hard to tell which side is bad that's why I recommend replacing them both. This vehicle was a prime example. I changed one side because the noise sounded as if it were coming from the driver side and although it was going bad, the passenger side was the one making the worse noise. I eventually changed it out. So, if you hear a roaring sound, similar to putting a plastic bottle in your bike wheel to make it sound like a motorcycle (lol), I am almost positive the hub is bad. Thanks for watching!

No problem. The ABS light wasn't on in this vehicle neither. Once you replace them, you will see a drastic improvement in mpg and driveability! Thanks for watching!

Hello do you remember what size chisel you used?
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, I am not sure what size it was and it really didn't matter as long as it was thin enough at the tip to break that seal. I finally did the other side yesterday and found an even easier way to remove the hub. I'll be uploading a video of it soon, but if you are doing the job now, take a sledgehammer or at least a 5lbs hammer and beat down on the hub while continuously spraying it with WD40 as it comes loose. Out of the hundreds of hubs I have removed, this is the fastest way I have ever seen or have done. It took me less than 3 minutes after a good pounding! Thanks for watching!!

@@TerenceDIY I will say this, I'm thankful for your video, It definitely have me a heads up, I did my wife's '12 chrysler town and country front hub bearing assemblies today... It was not easy, I did driver side and passnger side, your video definitely was very informative, my only issues were the hubs I believe may have been original ( never changed from new )? They were so seized in the aluminum knuckles ! Very gualded , I had sledged hammer, spray... I actually removed 2 of the studs and made a bolt jack... It took me 8 hours, but long story short, new bearing hubs both front are in and done! Doing it myself definitely saved that dealership or even local garage bill! Which I'm sure would have cost me some money with how these hubs were so seized into the knuckle housing! Thanks again Terence, again, your home video definitely was a help
