Here is a quick video on how to replace a temperature sensor on an Audi A6 with a 2.8L engine. This procedure should be very similar for all VW AUDI make and models with the 2.8L engine.

did this replacement and it was a pain in the >>>> I have seen a few videos that show the replacement done this way. However I had the hardest time trying to get this in without removing the air intake. For the amount of work it is to remove the intake held in by two bolts, it is crazy to do it this way as my hand had a very hard time trying to access it and replace it. Save yourself time and frustration and remove the plastic intake and work with free space.

I did as you instructed first attempt I didn't secure the new sensor but immediately I noticed while my Audi was on idle because some coolant leaked from the sensor housing. My second attempt no more leaking until 6 days later but not from anywhere near the sensor. I can't locate the leak and two different Audi shops could not locate the leak. I didn't do a radiator flush. Is a radiator flush required any help would be appreciated thank you sir. Even a quick "I don't know" is ok

It's a little harder on the 3.0 A6, but similar. On the 3.0 it's right in the middle of the rear part of the motor, so you have to remove the air breather neck that connects to the intake. That's a pain. Make sure you get it seated all the way so the clip goes over the sensor's lip. This replacement fixed a rough start issue when it sat and was cold.

I found an easier way to have access to the sensor on the top on rest of intake there is a connector on top unplug that and unscrew the 10m bolt holding it on. Then there is a number 5 allen bolt on lower bottom you can get a small ratchet down there with a number 5 allen attachment on there and ratchet it off boom pull intake to side and you have full access to coolant temp sensor and won't be needing to do this blind eye and looking clips.

Have a03 v6 Passat motor was blown just replaced with new engine and I'm down to vacume lines and wiring harness. I lost my oil sensor plug for bottom of oil pan.can utell me where it is coming from? Directly from computer side? Also the one plug on top of oil pan????

Fact is that they don’t go bad. The electrical connection just oxidizes and prevents current flow. Just wiggle the connector. Presto!

What's the reason you change it tho? Is that the one it sends signals to the ECU or to the gage inside the car? I read somewhere the one sending signals to the ECU could prevent the car from start, is it true?

See how the sensor has 4 prongs on it, it is sending its information to the ECU and to the gauge on the dash. Its a dual function sensor.

Hi i really need some help, when i cold start my Audi A6 2.4 V6 it will start immediately but when i drive it for a while and Engine temperature has reached normal level and i turn it off i really have a hard time to get it start again. i haven't replaced this sensor yet but also what else could it be ?
