While working on my 2006 Mercury Montego, I noticed the bushing in my motor mount was broken and fell to pieces when I removed its center bolt. Here I'll be showing you how I removed the old bushing and replaced it with a new motor mount bushing without a press.

You sure just pulled me out of the fire! I cut reliefs into the old one and never thought to relieve the new one as well. I can't believe I spent 2 hours cussing at the part trying to make it fit, when it just took 45 seconds with a dremel, thank you!

Thanks for your video! I did exactly what you did. The new mount is much larger than the hole and still needs to be pressed on after it is cut. Thanks again!

For next time use 2 pieces of wood and sandwich the mount so you can press it in with C-clamps. Avoid damaging the part. Hope this helps

Excellent job on the installation without a press. I did this same job last year and I can assure you that it wasn't easy even when using a press. In fact, I didn't make a relief cut in the new strut mount like you had done which as you stated was an extremely tight fit. As a result, I wasn't able to press it in completely and ended up leaving it 1/8th of and inch from seating completely. After watching your video, I ordered another strut mount and will use your method of making one relief cut to hopefully seat it completely this time around.

Thanks for watching! I'm glad it'll help. I did this in April, and it has been 5 months and the bushing is still in place securely. It hasn't budged or moved at all. If the bushing is still good, you might be able to do a relief cut on the bushing you already have and be able to push it in all the way. You'll need a hacksaw. I used a Dremel to cut the new bushing and it took me only seconds to cut!

I had the same issue, I got it in far enough to be able to get the mount over it and bolted in. It hasn't given me issues yet but as you said I'm planning to try this method in the future. How has it held up?

You go girl. Its nice to see someone at least try and fix there own vehicles. You won't learn if you don't try. 5 🌟 I have a tip for your viewers. For a press, use a threaded rod. Put the rod through the hole, use two plates of metal, one on each end then attach two nuts on the threaded rod, one on one side and then the other side. Tighten them nuts to squeeze the new mount into its proper placement. I have total respect for you and your willingness. The way you did yours, it might start working its way back out.

Thanks for stopping by. I check it occasionally and it hasn’t worked its way back out in all this time. The relief cut was made very thin with a small Dremel tool.

Don't make that relief cut. It messes up the bushing. You NEED 2 HEAVY DUTY c-clamps, a price of heavy gauge metal and press it in. TIME AND PATIENCE is key. I changed mine out it was shot! I didn't notice a difference. Good luck yall!
@Chocaluvr
@Chocaluvr Жыл бұрын
@@raymondmesa6839 why don’t you make your own video on how you did it. NOTHING went wrong after making this relief cut. It’s been more than a year and it has not messed up the bushing. The bushing has not lost its efficacy and hasn’t budged. Stop spreading fear in my video. Have a good day!

As others may have said this bushing is intentionally designed to be very tight in the aluminum bracket so that the bushing does not shift around and loosen in service. I hope it works out long enough for you without failing from excessive looseness. I am going to replace the same bushing in my Ford 500. I will cut through the old one as you did being careful not to go into the bracket and then pull in the new one with a long 3/8 inch bolt, nut and some large washers that seat against that flange you pointed out. At the other end I will use a large socket that will fit the bracket opening and also clear the bushing flange for the last 1/8 inch. A dealer shop would only replace the entire bracket with a big bill resulting.

I haven't had any problems with the bushing. It has been 6 months and it's still tight in it's place. The relief cut doesn't have "excessive looseness" as you say. It's about 1/8th of an inch or less, and the relief cut was just wide enough to be able to slide it in with a little WD 40. Good luck with the way you'll be doing it. I've had people mention that even with a press, the bushing will still not go in fully. It's a mighty task pushing these bushings in.

@@Chocaluvr I got mine in with about 1/4" sticking out on the "lip" side with a C clamp, 2 pieces of steel and a breaker bar. It was not fun. Do not recommend. I might try your method of it gives me issues but so far so good!

Did you make the relief cut all the way through? Or did you stop before slicing all the way through?

The relief cut was made on both, the old and the new bushing, all the way through the outer side of the bushing as in the video.

PLEASE DONT DO THIS, ENGINE MOUNTS ARE WHAT THEY CALL AN INTERFERENCE FIT, YOU WILL RENDER THE MOUNT NEXT TO USELESS BY CUTTING IT, YES IT MAY SLIDE IN BY HAND.....I CAN ASSURE YOU THIS SHOULD NOT BE THE CASE. ALTERNATIVELY PRESS IT IN, PAY FOR SOMEBODY TO PRESS IT IN, OR HEAT UP THE MOUNT, AND PUT THE BUSHING IN THE FREEZER AND IT WILL SLIDE RIGHT IN COLD SHRINKS HEAT EXPANDS, JUST DONE ONE TONIGHT :)

I tried freezing the bushing and other suggestions tried by others and it did NOT work. The relief cut is very thin and the bushing has not budged or given me any problems in over a year. It is still in place tight doing its job.
