This was going to be a "How to Replace X Part on Y Car" video for the upper engine mount/CVT mount on this 2005 Mercury Montego, but with limited tools, it became a very difficult job and more of a lesson about tackling a job unprepared, and considering the actual cost of parts and tools.

Thanks for this. We were told it was bad struts so we put it off for a while. Just replaced the water pump and noticed the bushing was bad. We have this exact car so this helped perfectly

I did this a few months ago thinking it would get rid of a little shake at around 45-50mph. Especially since I replaced all the front suspension last year, but no dice. However, getting a shop press specifically for this task was totally worth it. Never used one in my life and took 15 minutes once the mount was out of the vehicle. It only needs four tons of force to press in so no need for a monster 20 ton rack. So many others have replaced it this way and since it's not that big of a deal, this is another great way to do it.

I never used a press to replace bushinhs or wheel bearings. I only use law of physics which states that objects shrink when cold, and expand when hot. Keep the bushing in freezer overnight and heat up mount with torch, and it goes in with an ease.

If I were to leave my torque bushing overnight in a freezer then simple just put it in, would it eventually just expand naturally?

I feel like this video could be called "How to make an omelet without eggs." I'm impressed you got it done this way, but I would def prefer to use bolts/washers/piece of pipe to press the new bushing in.

I would definitely prefer that method, but even then, the lip on the bushing would have made that pretty difficult. There was just 2 or 3 millimeters of curved metal to use around the lip. Still, 100% certain that the right tools would have saved me a ton of time.

@@CarsSimplified Yeah for some bushings you can use a bearing press set, but many like this the hole is too small. They make some other hand press sets for bushings that work well though or it's just about hardware store fabricobbling.

I took the whole thing out and layed it out on the floor and banged the bushing out with a screwdriver and hammer, then I put a block of wood on top of the new bushing and banged it in. Came out pretty good.

I have a Mercury Montego Premier. And AutoZone sells the rubber bushing for the mount all you have to do is knock it out of there We also used a heavy grade bolt to tighten everything up because the old screw had stripped

You dod a very good video. Very informative and will help when I do mine this next week. The one reply about using a large bolt and two steel plates to pull the bushing in may be something I try or us use a large sea clamp.

But, it is NOT an ENGINE MOUNT!!!! It is a ROLL RESTRICTOR, like the one underneath. Start over.
