I have been doing this repair with my mig since 1999 no plates no issues hardest part is removing the exhaust manifold. Welding a nut on takes seconds. Little advice don't use a carbide burr to clean up the nuts. use a 1/4 inch diameter .025 wire end brush in a drill motor. The carbide burr will make a quick mess of the sealing surface and exhaust leak when you slip off the broken bolt. The wire brush will not

I like the mig adapter but I weld those out all the time without those templates with no issues.

They make very nice flexible mig torch handles that are much better than that adapter. They can be life saving in some situations and they are also a godsend when welding exhaust on vehicles.

I suggest aluminum flashing tape for AC units and furnaces....just use a hole punch and line the hole up and press it firmly

I just drill a hole in the corner of a peice of scrap 1/8th inch flat stock a few inches long for leverage weld it on and tap on it with a hammer

Best prevention for this, on all engines, use copper antiseize, make sure your manifold or header bolts are lined up correctly

That's typically not the issue. It's not that the bolts seize, they typically break off under normal operation of the vehicle. All the hot/cold heat cycles expand and contract, breaking the bolts. Of course, using antiseize is not a bad idea either.

Im not sure how much it helps because on aluminum heads your weld doesn't stick to the aluminum and iron heads maybe it helps but i have my doubts

No, you would put the plate over the studs and secure the plate with nuts.

Save your money and spend $5 for a jar of nuts from the hardware store. You will weld multiple times and break off the nuts, just to get the broken studs heated up

A little bit of grease is the dumbest thing i think ive heard putting near welding, why in the hell didnt they include a little tapered magnet to hold insert while you install 🤔 🤣 😳 😂 😐 😏 🤔
