I bought an X380 a couple months ago and just installed a mulch kit yesterday. It was my first time taking the deck off the tractor. It wasn't hard to take off, but when I was trying to put the drive belt back on when I was finishing up, the belt kept falling off the rear pulley. After putting it back on a couple times, I figured out a good way to hold the belt on the rear pulley while putting it on the front pulley. I took about a 6" piece of masking tape, put the belt on the rear pulley and put the piece of tape over the belt, sticking it on the top and bottom of the pulley. It worked very well, and was just enough to hold the rear of the belt in place while I put the belt on the front. After I got the belt in place, checked to be sure it was right, I simply reached under and pulled the tape off. It might sound silly, but it is really annoying when you get the belt just about on the front and the back is off. By the way, the mulch kit works very well on the 48A deck and it is easy to install. The instructions could be better, but it's not that complicated you can't figure it out.

It’s a lot easier to pull the deck out the other way This is a great video to show how to remove the deck at the end of the year. It’s way too much work to change blades though. I did this for years, until I learned the trick Here’s the trick- go to Harbor Freight, and for approx $100, by a tractor jack- best money you’ll ever spend. Drive the front wheels on it, jack it up, change the blades. No need to go through all this It even raises it high enough to use pneumatic tools I like to use never seize on the bolts also. Helps the next time around

That deck design is lightyears ahead of anyone else's. My cub cadet is a little simpler, but the belts wear more quickly and are prone to being thrown off. This design is long lasting and well engineered. Not to mention,the accel deep decks leave a better cut in thick deep grass. Mine leaves clumps and rows,even with premium blades. If I mow every week it looks nice,but if I skip a week it looks like I cut it with a string trimmer.

Important to lock back the lift lever as at 2:43. (My manual does not show this.) Also, I found it necessary to unhook the forward draft arms to take considerable pressure off the j-hooks. After that, they just slipped out. Blade retainer nut seems to be 18 mm.
@MrStangdawg11 ай бұрын
Also he shows you can click the height knob to position 1 without lifting the deck. That's no go on my X380 you have to lift the deck with your foot to raise the deck and then do it. I loathe swapping in my snowblower every year because of these silly J-pins. It's always like wrestling a gorilla.

@@toyotaguy75 I can tell you on my machine it does not work. Even my dealer acknowledges this. I use a crow bar under the deck to finagle the J hooks. This is a very poor design. I take my deck and snowblower on and off each year for swapping them and it's dreadful.

No click sound when pulling the lift pedal back. I can pull it back and I lock it, but disengaging linkages ain’t happening. Little help?

Hmmmm. Good question. If you can not get it to work, you may have to have your dealer take a look.

Would the deck need to be re-leveled after putting it back on?
@WesternEquipment4 ай бұрын
It is always good practice to at least check the level of the deck to make sure everything is in place as you had it.

I have my deck installed, belt on, however when I push the pedal to raise the deck. The deck will not raise. What's the issue?
@WesternEquipment3 жыл бұрын
Hmmmmm, that's a good question. Everything hooked up just like in the video? is your pedal out of the install position?

I must be doing something wrong with these J pins. I can’t lift the arms out.
@WesternEquipment2 жыл бұрын
If you can not lift the arms out then your deck must not be fully unlocked. You have to lower the deck all the way down and then pull the lifting pedal backwards (towards the driver seat) and then lock it into place. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

after watching this and several other videos I feel like basic maintenance on my x380 should be easy. Regrettably, a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing. As I followed this video I took the deck off, changed the blades and re-mounted the deck. When attempting to engage the blades one of the belts smoked and was torn up. Also the blades sounded like they were rattling from not being tight enough. Long story short I think I have watched every video on doing maintenance on this mower and I have changed belts changed blades leveled the deck checked the spindle integrity and still cant get the rattling to stop.

If you are having belt damage, have you checked if one of you pulleys or idlers are bad on the top side of your deck? You may have one with a bad bearing or one that is loose casing it to wobble and cause the rattling sound.
@charlesrichardson-tv1bq4 ай бұрын
@@WesternEquipment Long story short, there ended up being a lot wrong with it. Mostly deck alignment. ended up just taking it down and letting the experts take care of it.

Why did they change the design from the last model, I have an lx 288, and it is so much easier than my x380, both are 54" decks. The last requires no tools, the belt release has a lever, no ratchet needed.
