Great video! I have a few hints for you and your customers. 1. Put hand lotion on your hands before working with oil, grease or fuel. ( Makes cleaning up faster because fluids will not soak into skin as far. ) 2. Pour oil with the neck in the higher position. Most bottles of oil have a picture imprinted near the neck of the bottle showing this. This helps because the bottle can be tipped more before the oil flows out. ( The first bottle in video you did with the neck in lower position and it dripped a little. The second one you did neck up and didn't drip at all. ) These were tips I picked up from my High School shop teacher. ( Best Teacher Ever ) Keep up the great Videos!!!!!!

In case no one else has mentioned or noticed it, you're NOT supposed to screw-in the oil filler cap when checking the oil level.

In another video I think you washed the pre-filter, so is that okay still okay to do? Also, is the front of the housing supposed to be flush, because mine is raised a bit and it impossible to tun the clips to remove the housing unless I use a sledge hammer on the clips (I am always wary I will brake the clips or something)? Maybe being a woman I am not strong enough - you seem to turn the clips without too much effort.
@WesternEquipment Жыл бұрын
It should be flush and very easy to turn the clips I would check to see if your filter is just not sitting down into the housing correctly. Does that make sense?
@IVant2BAlone Жыл бұрын
@@WesternEquipment I took that into consideration... even tried to put it on without the filter just to see, but the fit is the same. I said I used a seldgehammer, but I meant to say mallet. Anyway, thanks so much for replying.

When you finish removing old oil filter, wipe up all the used oil from filter catch lip as well as gasket ring. You never screw in dip stick to check oil. You should run the mower a few minutes to fill the filter.

Idk if you'll see this or respond but I'm having trouble with my x380. It has been sitting for a few months and only has a few hours on it. It's surging badly I'm hoping this home maintenance kit will help. If not any insight? Thanks
@WesternEquipment Жыл бұрын
Surging has to do with your fuel system. You may need to clean the carburetor and put in some fresh fuel with a fuel stabilizer and cleaner. If not then the carburetor and throttle cable may need an adjustment.

Hey Brent. Your videos are great. Thanks so much. Got a question. Recently picked up a 2017 x380 with 260 hours. I have used it about 10 hours so far. each year the previous owner used a LG265 kit and maintained it himself and he has done a great job. He gave me an extra kit and I just did that myself. Is there anything else it needs other than that? Like lubing the chassis, ball joints, belts, whatever...... Other than just the annual oil, filters, plugs, etc..... Thanks.

what is the spark plug gap dimension. You sort of glossed over it. Does that gauge come in the pack?

Should the transmission fluid be changed as well?
@WesternEquipment3 жыл бұрын
Not as often as the maintenance of the engine. You definitely want to reference you operator manual in this instance as some of these transmissions are sealed and will not require changing the fluid or servicing. Thanks for watching!

Another great video, Brent! I hassled with the fuel filter change on my old LX277, as well. A few years ago, I picked up some medical clamps and use them to clamp off both sides of the fuel hose, on either side of the filter. They work like a charm. There is less mess and its a lot safer. To make sure the clamps don't damage the fuel line, I slip old vacuum line over the clamping jaws.

How do I drain the old gas out of the tank? I installed the kit and it went well. I am just worried that old gas will cause problems.
@WesternEquipment3 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is a drain on the bottom of this tank so you may either have to pull it or use an electric pump to drain it. Or you could just put some fuel stabilizer in it and then you should be fine. Hopefully this was helpful!

Excellent! Exactly what I needed to know! Great video! Thank you! I thought it looked super clean and wondered why you needed shop towels until you poured the first quart of oil without the funnel. I admire your spirit. You had the technique for the second bottle. Would you say that the spark plugs are "pre" gapped and you were just checking? Or is there real concern for the spark plug gap when buying the John Deere Maintenance Kit?
@WesternEquipment2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the compliment. I am glad you enjoyed the video. The spark plugs are supposed to be pre gapped but I have found in the many kits I have put on that most of them are really close but every once in a while you will have one that is pretty far off so it is a good idea to always check them.
