Cameron, I have a X330 with the same transmission and I am going on 3rd year of plowing snow with a blade and mowing a half an acre and mine is still holding up good. I have about 50 hours on it so far. Only problem I had was the carburetor went wonky on me and had to be replaced. i also put ag tires on front and rear and have 4 42 lb weights on the back most of the year when I don't have the bagger on there.

I bought an X300 in 2013 with the same blower as you have. The 300 is a little under powered for the blower but it has handled up to 3 feet of snow without problem. I live in a snow belt right off Georgian Bay. Repairs... 3 shear pins … 1 drive belt. Mower deck: 1 drive belt. Tractor: oil changes and a new front tire.. it kept going flat. They are EXCELLENT tractors and you will never be sorry you bought a Deere

I bought an X370 with power steering 3 years ago and I really like it. A couple of things I have discovered with my machine that might help with winter snow blowing. Never use the parking brake between use when the machine sits over night. It will freeze and you can not engage the blower. Keep some 1/4" x 1 1/2- 2" bolts and nylon nuts on hand to replace the ones that break in the auger shafts. My machine will not start if the temps go below 20 degrees, so I keep a torpedo heater near by to warm it up for 5 minutes or so on those cold days. Have fun removing and installing the drive belt for the blower. I use a small block of wood to hold the spring loaded pulley over far enough to slide the belt on and off. If you can, don't leave the blower out in the weather over the summer. The control knob for the chute will rust inside. I also change my oil and filter every 50 hours, not 100. If your mower deck is equipped with a fitting to attach a garden hose, it works best if you flush the deck out over a hard surface (driveway) with the deck as low as it goes. Finally, I'm not sure what the difference in US vs Canadian dollars is but, I paid 6k for my machine in May of 2016 with the mower and blower set up.

Those auger bolts you refer to are actually engineered shear bolts. Never replace them with common bolts. If you jam the auger with an obstruction they are intended to shear .to protect the auger gearbox from damage. The proper shear bolts are inexpensive and available at the JD dealer.

Nice video. I had a 14’ X324 which is the 350 with the bigger motor and 4 wheel steer. Loved it. When I decided to get a snow blower however, I traded for a X584. It has the bigger seat, tires, motor, 4 wheel steer, power steering and power lift. I love my X324 but this thing is night and day difference. The trans is heavier duty and even more responsive. The power steering makes operating it effortless, my favorite feature. Enjoy, should last you a long time!

Why? Most every non commercial lawn tractor/mower like this one is built to run maybe 200 - 300 hours (10 - 20 hours a year for ~ 10 - 15 years) in its working life. Critical parts will become obsolete well before it rusts the frame out.

@Daniel 045 What does putting a new engine in a worn out chassis do? As someone who had reconditioned several riding lawn mowers and garden tractors most of then the engines outlast the chassis and mechanical driveline parts by a wide margin. So much so I make a point of salvage engines off riding mowers to use for other purposes or to sell to those who ruined theirs by running their engines out of oil or other self inflicted lack maintenance destruction.

One thing I recommend to put on your wishlist is a cab enclosure. Even the Soft cab. The first time you blow your driveway when there is any type of wind, you will wish you had the protection from a face full of snow/ice. It also keeps you warmer. I've had one on mine for over 10 years now. I just wish I had gotten it sooner.

These are really good machines, I have a 2010 X300 with 800 hours on it now and it has the Kawasaki V twin but is rated at 17 hp, one great engine! About filling with gasoline, you can avoid more spillage by not using your gerry can spout as they sometimes leak where the spout screws on. The wide mouth is a smart idea! I mow three acres and it takes two tanks and five hours, so mow half, coffee or lunch and then the other half. Good video, thanks.

Only issue I've had is had to replace the lift level when it broke and a new battery this year. Keep a battery maintainer on when not using it and the battery will last a long time. I started with a used JD 316 moved up to a X500 similar to what you purchased. Living in Iowa I wanted to have a blade for summer usage.and a blower for snow removal. With the blade and blower being heavy the manual lift was too hard on my body. I now moved up to a JD X530 Which has hydraulic lift ,power steering,power differential lock and large tires.These accessories are worth every penny I spent. In snow now 2024 we’ve had over 13 in snow so far and this machine is a blessing. Push or blow the snow and the quick hitch system is easy to change over. Just not an issue how much snow I can remove.😀👍 Nice home and large yard which reminds me of my place.👍

I have a 2007 X300, Kawasaki engine. Yours has two heavy lift rods where mine has one single thinner one. I have the 44" snowblower the same as you. I had to add (2) extra 50 pound weights in the back, but that snowblower does an amazing job. I used to live on a 1/4 acre lot. It also moved snow for 6 other neighbors, and 600 feet of road to my house as the town was very slow to clear it... My X300 has had its share if little problems, nothing I couldn't resolve..The Kawasaki engine is very strong and quiet as you say, very reliable. Do your maintenance and you'll have your tractor for 12 years too. Just know, the seat will crack with time because of the winter use. My father had a 1971 110 that also cracked.. All seats do it.. I've moved snow so deep, I couldn't see the top of the snowblower. Yes, you go slow so you don't overwork the blower, but it will more than do the job! I put on some homemade drift cutters made from extra shelving angle metal. N- joy your tractor!

ah, I see the service interval label says to change the transaxle oil after the first 50 hour break in period. That's good. Most people don't do that because the K46 transaxle is said to be "non-serviceable" because the average homeowner can't service it. It needs to be serviced by a skilled mechanic. If you plan on keeping your tractor more that 4 years, you should service the transaxle after the 50 hour break in period. John Deere puts 10W30 oil in the transaxle when it's new to give it a better break in period but after that, you should dump out the oil, open the transaxle, clean the dirty oil and metal shavings out of the gear box, reseal the transaxle, and then fill it with a synthetic 5W50 oil. This should give it maximum torque and a much longer life. But if you don't do this, the transaxle will gradually lose torque over time until it becomes useless. Here's an example of a D170 which also has the K46 transaxle. It's starting to have trouble mowing this ditch, probably because the transaxle was never serviced. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5CWonajeNKff8k

Nice video. I just bought one earlier today, paid a little more than 9k but added the bagger and some lawn tow behind additions and the snow blower. I have 1 acre of land and half of it is front and back yard grass which are killing my feet, legs and lower back these past 4yrs with a walk behind mower. In the winters months when it snows I have a 10car driveway that is no longer fun shoveling 😂 although the whole family comes out. This year I had enough!! I did a lot of research on lawn tractors & zero degree mowers and learned the difference between the two and what I really needed which I believe is this X350. I hope I’m right cause these things are expensive but are an investment. Cheers 🍻 my fellow Deere 🦌. I’ll be looking for the videos to come.

Nice tractor, I have a John Deere 316 tractor that my dad bought back in 1984 and I am still using it today, rebuilt the engine once in it. I love that John Deere still has parts for old machines like mine and you can see the quality in it, as you said it has a beefy steel frame. not sure I like the foot pedals if you are going to be doing hours of mowing, mine has the hand lever and it takes 8 hours to mow my lawn. I like that it has a tight turning circle, for me going around the trees, I can go about half way, do a short back up and finish the circle. I don't like the fact you can't position the choke when cold to let it warm up without holding the lever, but maybe it doesn't need it.

A great overview of this tractor, thanks! I recently purchased this same model. My 325 (about 27 years old) was starting to have too many issues, so I retired it and our snow plow guy just retired. This is a great mower and I am looking forward to using the blower attachment. We aren't on completely flat ground, but I'm confident this will do just fine. On our lawn, it handles perfectly and runs great. The cost was pretty much the same (considering the currency exchange rate).

good video just got one picking it up tomorrow, Main reason 10 gauge deck.Have a D 130 deck went in less than 3 years. Plus I like the 3 blades instead of only 2. the longer the blades the easier they bend. it did not take much to bend the longer blades. As for the snow you are showing that is not very much snow, wet is heavy to blow but the 2 & 3 ft wind packed is the hardest, we get snow up to 4' drifts and when you stand on them all you do is leave a foot print, on top and I am 185 lbs. I would like to see if the blower will go through that. I am glad they are using a 2 stage I had a 3 stage and all it did is take out shear pins when we had hard packed snow, had to get a 2 stage, made a world of a difference. Thanks for the video, made me glad I went that way.

The plastic shoot will crack when launching ice chunks. Mine’s duct taped, and then gorilla tape over the top for a better look. The collectors can bend when jammed into blocks of ice. Having said that, the shear pins don’t break as intended... Do not suck a newspaper up into the blower it’ll simply strip the plastic out. Tapped and bolted mine back together. I love mine, and I hope you do yours.

Nice machine...but you will find out the hard way in time that because your yard and drive are"flat"doesn't mean trouble free traction.Anytime you run a two stage blower,diff-lock is a requirement and power 4-wheel steering isn't a luxury either. In time what will happen,is when you turn the wheel to go left or right,you'll hit a patch of solid ice and the tractor will continue to go into a straight line.( in spite of using chains) The 4-wheel steer system helps dramatically with directing drive power with your rear wheels in icy conditions while turing left and right.(X-534 in my case) When you get to be my age you'll find that hydraulic lift is not a luxury it's mandatory. I bought the X-534 for these reasons,plus the heavier K-72 hydro is a much heavier duty transmission and will last much longer. Now,when you start up,ALWAYS start your PTO at idle to no more then 1/3 rd.throttle when engaging.Those electro-clutches are about $400.00-$500.00 bucks to buy new,so you want to go easy on it at startup,then power up to full throttle.

Nice review. I can't tell from the video or not, however, whenever you engage the PTO or disengage it, you should idle down the motor. It's better for the belts. On big tractors, if you don't do this, they call it, "Shocking the PTO."

Old wives tale. The first idler pulley off the PTO is spring loaded to take the shot. I work on small engine equipment and never saw a PTO wiped out by engaging under full throttle. The weakest link are the bearings. If you ever replace your PTO get one that the bearing is removable.

@@joeganusi8522 If this is true then, I wonder why they also recommend that gas and diesel engines get idled down before being turned off as well? Maybe they had magic springs also? I have yet to replace a belly mower belt, because I idle down the engine before engaging or de-engaging.
@joeganusi8522
@joeganusi8522 4 жыл бұрын
@@AStanton1966 Gas engines usually fill up the exhaust with unburned fuel if you don't idle them down before shutting them off resulting in a big backfire, especially if some backyard yo yo cuts the tip off the anti-backfire valve. As far as the diesels, an immediate shut down after putting a load on an engine can result in overheating the engine (coolant flow stops upon shutdown and the block becomes a heatsink). So, a minute or two run at idle (by idle, I mean 1200-1500 RPM with a tractor) allows the coolant to flow at no load and keep the engine cooler. Now as far as you've never replaced your belt, good for you. I've seen belts last for years with customers who engage the PTO full or low throttle. Some tractors eat them up, some don't.

If you buy the X300R or X350 R, the rear bagger is a permanent attachment, which gives several real advantages over the other models. 1st, because it has No Side discharge you trim close on either the Left or The Right, 2- The bag can be dumped without getting out of the seat, 3- The mower blades direct the clippings with counter rotating blades that direct the clippings into a single stream out the chute below the mower, and into the rear bag. 4 - there is an available extra cost optional rear discharge to allow you to direct all the clippings out the rear for wide dispersal onto the ground, should you wish. (this still permits the reattachment of the rear bag when desired.) My X300 R has the 17 HP Kawasaki motor which is more than powerful enough to do all you need, including cut very tall grass and weeds. I usually leave the mower deck un-lowered to do this, and then make a second pass with the deck set to the desired height. Be careful to avoid this high grass when it is wet or it can clog the rear chute that leads to the bag. I find two days without rain is sufficient to avoid clogs after a rain. The rear chute whn clogged can be pulled straight back and removed. Use a small flashlight to check to see the clog is removed in such a situation, obtain a narrow long handle rake so you can reach all the way in to loosen any clog of clippings before sliding the discharge chute back into place, no tools required for this.

Hopefully you will have it for a while. Mine was bought new in 98 an LX188. Pretty much same as what you have but it was 5500 back then. What has happened to mine is that I started towing a 2000 lb splitter around and I think I may have damaged the transmission. Still cuts grass ok but there is a definite ticking in transmission. I'm trying to make it last until I turn 60 , four more years so I can get a 4066r est at 75000. Have to wait because I want to buy it using my 401k money.

I have the X354 and LOVE the 4 wheel steering because, as you said, I have a lot of trees in my yard to mow around. Did not get the snow blower because I have a large blower already that includes the protective cab, which I really like! The video you made was perfect, I think it's the best I've seen on the John Deere X series!

Love your enthusiasm! Great video. Taking delivery of my ‘22 X350 Friday after having had a 1997 LX178 with Kawasaki V-twin liquid cooled motor. No joke, this engine is built for the long run and was a joy to operate over the years. Really hoping the air cooled version delivers similarly.

Because i live on a very busy public road, always plowed by the county, I purchased the best snowblower for heavy wet snow, a Tracked Honda with electric start, the 9 HP , the H928TAS model, it always gets the job done. It has a hydrostatic transmission not the often useless Friction Wheel drive system common to other walk behind snow blowers.

Hint for BETTER snow ejection: The blades on the "ejector" are about 1/2" from the housing. REMOVE the 3 blades and attach an "extension" of rubber belting material to the blades with metal screws. They should be about 1/4" from the housing. You'll be amazed HOW MUCH FARTHER the snow flies. Don't slow the engine, too! Yes, you're welcome.

When the snow gets wet and heavy you will probably be using the snowblower as a push blade.,The belt will probably slip. I've been doing lawnmower repair for thirty years and know a lot of people who have them sitting in the back of their garage for years. They buy a walk behind snowblower. Hopefully not the case for you. Good Luck!

I just have one question. When raising and lowering the snowblower attachment, is it just one level? UP, and then DOWN. Is there any "in between" levels the snowblower can be left at while snowblowing? Say 1" off the ground, or 2" off the ground? You would be able to do that with the LAWNMOWER attachement, right? Different grass cutting heights. Why not with the snowblower attachment too?

I did not know you have to change the transaxle oil and filter within 50 hrs. To do that you have to remove the deck and it's generally a pia for an average homeowner. If you need this tractor, then that's what you need. But keep in mind you will have initial maintenance to do on it.

Little tip... don't put the nozzle on your gas can. The whole point in having the big gas port on the edge is you just put the open gas can right up to the opening... done. Faster, easier, no spills and you don't have to hold the gas can way out from the tractor.

I know everyone has their own two cents worth to throw in so I thought I'd bring up a question concerning rear weight. I was told years ago that with these lighter series machines it is better to use wheel weights than ballast-style weights like in this video. The point is that if you can achieve the same weight directly on the wheels, it takes the additional strain off of the transaxle. That could be BS, but it makes sense to me. My two cents.

Congratulations on your beautiful new home. I’m so upset that John Deere no longer offers their walk behind and self propelled rotary lawn mowers in the US market particularly since they are offering a cordless electric oversees and this year cordless mowers have finally equaled the performance of their gas powered equipments. One disappointed because I have the matching John Deere head cap and nothing says America like John Deere.

I cut some automotive cable protective tubing to size where one puts their hand to lift the hood/cowling. My hood was sharp and the tubing eliminated the risk. I cleaned the area with alcohol and used plenty of Silicone sealant inside the tub then applied the modification to the hand grab area.

I have the older x300 which is like yours. The power steering would have been a great feature for you because the deck lift would had been powered and would have been nice to lift your blower. The more snow you put in the blower the better it will work. And you may find you will need a total of 4 suit case weights. I added a suicide knob on my steering...made it so much easier.
