You are welcome, Megan. I don't recommend removing the burners every time you clean, maybe just a couple of times a year for a good cleaning. Excessive removal will cause the receptacle to wear and eventually the connection becomes loose. Then you'll need to replace the receptacles. I have a video that shows how to do that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXSzYqqNYs6WgrM

Very straightforward, easy to understand & very informative. You also speak clearly & at the right speed to follow along. Thank you!

Hi Mary, you could try spraying electrical contact cleaner on the connection and wait a few minutes and try again. Unplug the stove to do this if you haven't already done it. If doesn't work, then try PB Blaster, this smells really bad and I doubt if the vapors are healthy to breath. Let that soak for about an hour and try it. If you have to use the PB Blaster (this is great for any stuck metal connections), then treat the connections with electrical connector cleaner afterwards. OMG!! It didn't kill you!⚡😲 I have cooked only on gas for 63 years. Now I'm in a house with an electric stove and I hate it. I've been here 2 years and haven't cleaned under the burners because IT TERRIFIES ME! Luckily, I'm a neat cook, plus I don't cook much anymore because I don't like cooking on electric.😕 So there isn't a big mess under there. You have given me courage to tackle what I thought would be a deadly task.😉😄😄 Thank you so much. I will post back here when I accomplish it. If you dont hear back, well... ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡🤯

Agreed, it can be kind of scary. Just unplug the stove (or flip the breaker - it should be on it's own breaker) and you will be fine. I put felt pads under my stove's feet. It makes it easy to slide if it needs to be moved. We just lift the burners and take the drip pan out from underneath to clean them, so maybe you won't even have to remove the burners.
@jaytee26425 ай бұрын
@@Know-How-Now I did it!! I survived!😄 Now I feel silly for being so scared of it. I mean, if it was that dangerous, there would be news stories every day about people being electrocuted.🤷🏻♀️ Thank you for explaining it so clearly and giving me courage.👍🏻🙂 And now I need to find a suitable tool to go after the leveling feet. I'm feeling mighty powerful now, and I'm tired of the burners tilting. My level confirms that the whole stove is higher in the front, and after watching a couple instructional videos, I know how to fix it.💪🏽🛠

Thank you for a nice, clear video! I have a question: there are sometimes the "super fast" burner. I just purchased an old stove to replace my other (older) stove that gave up... I am noticing the super fast burner is in the back right position, whereas on my older one, it was in the front right position (between these 2 stoves, the larger-smaller burners alternated differently.) I am wondering whether it matters, in which position on the stovetop you place the super fast burner (front vs back, left vs right.) Or it is inconsequential? Thank you in advance for any ideas on this (of course, I would only put the "super fast" burner, which is a large, in a large slot.)
@Know-How-Now2 жыл бұрын
I am not familiar with every stove model. You might want to find the model number (on a plate somewhere on the stove) and find a parts diagram for your stove. You will be able to confirm that the burners are the same part number. If yes, then you can swap them. Since it's an old stove someone could have replaced the infinate switch(s) with a different but similar part.

Look at the stove to find the model number. Don't forget to open the oven door and look there. After you have the model number look up the part number on one of the many appliance part seller's website. I always try to buy OEM parts. They are more expensive, but for sure it will be the right fit and good quality. Be careful, because some of the parts sellers can be tricky and you will think you are getting OEM part, but it's not.

Are those parts one size fits all, generally? It seems like maybe i should just replace the drip pan and burner.
@Know-How-Now Жыл бұрын
I've seen parts sold at hardware stores for stoves that claim to be generic to stoves. I wouldn't buy those parts. Find the model number on your stove (The one in the video has a metal plate visible when the oven door is opened) and look it up on one of the many appliance part sellers on the internet. If possible buy the OEM part. Many parts sellers are tricky and will send you an after market part. Sometimes those parts are OK and some times they are poor quality and don't fit. I prefer to pay a little extra for a genuine part from the manufacturer to avoid poor quality/bad fit and having to fight to return it.

Just moved into my first apartment and we haven't made any spills or anything since we moved in (we've only been cooking pasta with no sauce) but every time we cook on it, or in the oven, it sets off the smoke alarm. I Sometimes repeatedly 5+ during every use (mostly when we use the oven). I haven't burned anything either. I know if messes are causing this problem, it wasn't us who caused it. So annoying not having experience with shitty appliances, so we haven't been able to tell whether we should get a professional to take a look at it or not.
@Know-How-Now4 жыл бұрын
The likely problem is a smoke detector/alarm that is improperly located. I have a video on the topic, see the link below. Also, the smoke alarm/detector is likely an ionization type which are more likely to false alarm when placed in a kitchen environment. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bp2yhpannrqMftk

@Know-How-Now Жыл бұрын
Pulling the stove away from the way and unplugging it is best practice and the safest way. If the burner is turned off, there shouldn't be power to the burner unless there is a problem with the on/off switch for the burner. I advise for the best practice method.

If the burner hasn't been removed for a long time, they can be a little stubborn coming out of the receptacle. Some of the really old stoves were directly wired. If you can see a receptacle block, then you might have to give the burner a good tug. Try to grab the end of the burner that is close to the receptacle so you don't damage the burner.

What if mine is too tight to come out? It won't budge, and this burner definitely needs to be cleaned!

Sometimes they can be a little stubborn to remove, especially if they have not been removed recently.

Super! It's OK to remove the burners, but don't do it excessively. They sockets can become worn if you constantly remove the burners.

Hello i was cleaning my burner. I removed it but now i put it back but its not working . Can u tell me what's wrong with it?
@Know-How-Now Жыл бұрын
I would remove it again and check to see if the wiring to connection broke. Maybe the socket broke? Are the ends of the burner connections burnt looking? For sure before doing any work, unplug the stove or turn off the breaker. Here is a link to a playlist of other stove repair videos that I have which might help. kzbin.info/aero/PLvce66kQTjJR9jwr7OfByBe7SkArcPN0S

You are welcome, David. Good to hear you figured out how to remove the burner. If they have not been removed for a long time, sometimes they need a good tug to get them out of the receptacles.

Do you have a video for how to open the stovetop? I have a hotpoint electric range in an apartment I've been in for 9 years and can't figure it out! People on KZbin do it effortlessly bit when I try, I'm like some unreasonable cave(wo)man making no progress. :(

Sorry, I do not have a video that shows how to open a hotpoint stove top.

Hello, my burner works perfectly. The problem I'm having is the burner isn't flat. When I moved I to this apartment it was not leveled and all the food while cooking slides to one side of the pan. What can I do to correct this before going to the management company and asking them to replace the burner?
@Know-How-Now3 жыл бұрын
Hi Yolanda. Check out this link, if you do not have the tools to fix the problem. Show this solution to the maintenance person. www.wikihow.com/Level-Burners-on-an-Electric-Range

@@Know-How-Now Thank you for the link. That is exactly what's going on. It's only one corner (leg) of the front left burner that's raised. The link you sent explains everything. I know why placing my Dutch cast iron pot on the burner for weight never worked. It needs to be filed down. Thank you so much.

Just moved in to a new apartment. These things terrify me lol mine started to arc when i was using it. I think it was loose?
@Know-How-Now10 ай бұрын
Yes, it was probably a loose connection. If it's plugged in properly and still arcing, you''ll want to put a call in for maintenance.

So, you're telling me I can't clean my burners unless I unplug the thing? How do I do that? Pull out the stove/oven from the wall? Idk if I'll be able to reach behind to unplug it.😭
@Know-How-Now3 жыл бұрын
You can do as you please, Caitlin. I am suggesting the safest method, which would be to remove power by unplugging it or turning off the breaker. If you are sure the switches for the burners are in good working order, it is highly likely that it is safe to remove the burners without disconnecting power. I'm sure if I didn't tell you to remove power, your counterpart would be howling that I am telling you to do something unsafe.

You might try going to one of the appliance repair parts websites. Look up the model number, find a part for that location. The parts sellers will often have a video that shows you how to replace the part/open your stove.
