I had dozens of shihtzus and learned not to get water intensly in their face and down their nose or they will get sick with a cough and cold very easily.

Yes, @Jazzie Z, thanks for bringing that up, since it can't be said enough! No water in dogs noses ever! Especially brachycephalic pups like Shih Tzus. Thanks for your input! 😊

Thank you so much. We rescued a Standard Poodle about 6 months ago and have had a steep learning curve regarding poodle grooming. I have been stressing out because he likes being outside running around with his bro and sis, who are both slick coat. His eye crusties were a pain to remove until I saw your video. He now has no more hard crusties.

Hi, thanks so much for your comment, it validated my personal mission, and it made my soul very happy to hear your story. 🙏💕 You are so right, Poodles are technically hunting dogs, so it makes sense that your boy wants to be out there, roughing it up! But yes, their coat is on a whole other level, but with the proper care and education, it can be managed quite well with just a little bit of forethought and attention. Thank you so much for sharing and good luck with your rescue boy! 🐾

I had a sweet silkyoodle I gave her my patience when it came to bathing and grooming. The sleep in the corner of her eyes I removed with a warm micro cloth. Stubborn sleep, I removed with with a small nailcutting scissors with a curve. When trimming away sleep , make sure the curve is outward from the eye. This way it prevents the point pocking the corner of the eyes 👀🐶

Hi, aw, your pup sounds very sweet! Thanks for sharing. As a groomer, I scissor around eyes all the time carefully, but for eye boogers (or sleep), they usually just need to be softened up and combed out. In the case I run into extremely stubborn buildup, I will use the edge of my clipper and gently clipper away from the eye. Thanks for your comment!

@ginasgroomig Yes I moistened with a cloth and stubborn bits I removed with a small snip. Thank you for your kind words 💕

Hi Mary, I am so happy that the video can help! Aw, your older pup is probably getting a bunch of buildup (normal), but it is clear that he is in the best of hands! Thanks so much for watching! 🤗🐾

I have that very same flea comb and use it the same way after learning how to do that from you and the few wonderful groomers I follow. 🙂

Yay, so happy to hear that, Dorothy! 😊 Those little flea combs are so amazingly helpful - I couldn't groom without them! Thank you for your kind feedback! 💗

My Lhasa gets terrible ones, it's torture for me and him😢, he's very jerky and hard to clean- thank for instructions.
@GinasGrooming8 ай бұрын
I grew up with Lhasas! 💕 Best advice above and beyond this video is to wipe by the eyes daily once they are clean. I know it's hard, but that bit of slightly hard work is better than dealing with hard build-up later. I can recommend Bio-Groom's Eye Wipes, but even a basic tissue works for daily maintenance. Good luck, you've got this! ❤️

Hello Gina, thanks for your video. I have a big problem with my 12 year dog. He unfortunately bites (super hard). Is similar to the dog that appears in this video. I have no way to remove his eye boogers. Do you have any recommendation for a problematic dog that bites when you try? Thanks
@GinasGrooming3 ай бұрын
Hi Henry, I am so sorry and I know how difficult it can be! The first bit of advice (and I hate them too) is to use a muzzle just for the small amount of time needed to help your baby with his eye discharge. The second thing you can try is a towel - you can bunch it up so that he bites the towel while you use the other end to wipe the eyes. It's tricky, and it helps to have a buddy help you, but you can def do this! And if the build-up is really bad, I would see a vet or a good groomer to get back to square one. Hope that helps, and good luck!

Hi. I'm a self-taught hobby groomer. I struggle a bit with doing this well shaped legs if the dog when keeping longer hair. And making a skirt under the belly. Can you do a tutorial om that? Give som helpful tips😄. Most of the dogs i get are too matted and has to be shaved down.
@GinasGrooming2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kmliy! Congrats on jumping in and learning how to groom! By shaving matted coats, you are making all those pups feel so much better! 😍 Ok, for shaping and scissoring longer legs, take a look at our video with a Parti Poodle: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnvQinehj51gkMU , and for skirts, this may be helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZK4ipatf5h9r8U . How to get out a chronic build up, solidified, of the boogies in her eye? We found a neglected dog and took her in but she has a chronic build up of it below each eye and it’s very difficult and painful to remove
@GinasGroomingАй бұрын
Aw, congratulations on your new pup - she is so lucky to have you! Chronic build-up around the eyes is very common, and the good news is that once you get through the hard stuff, all you need is a quick daily wipe of the eyes and you'll prevent any new accumulation. The best advice to get through hardened build-up is to patiently soften it up with a warm, damp washcloth and break it down bit by bit. If this is too much for your little girl, you may need the help of a pro to get it to level zero and then take it from there. Good luck; you've got this! 👍🐾

Is baby tear free shampoo safe to use to soften and wash the eye debri away?
@GinasGrooming Жыл бұрын
Hi Vikki, great question! Although I have not used baby shampoo for this personally, I do know clients that do, and it reportedly works fine! Good luck and thanks for watching!

My dog will NOT let me wipe her face with a washcloth. Am I just being too gentle? Should I hold her her a little harder?
@GinasGrooming Жыл бұрын
Hi Lauren! Well, you are not alone - many pups resist the face wipe! But just like wiping jelly off a toddler's face, it has to be done! Gentle is always correct, but you can add some "firm" in there with it... and find a different approach (try from the side, or petting her between the eye area before wiping) and then reward with love or treat! You got this! Thanks for watching! 🙏😍
@theresavaughn92433 ай бұрын
My dog would never let me do that to her eyes! Its so harden on even when I wet it. And that comb, if I tired to use that she would yelp so loud the neighbors would think I'm abusing her!
@GinasGrooming3 ай бұрын
Oh no, Theresa! Sounds like your pup has extreme eye buildup that takes extra soaking to soften up and remove. If you are not able do it without hurting your baby, definitely visit a good groomer in your area soon (that buildup will only get worse and can cause a sore to form under the buildup.) The good news is that once the buildup is removed, all you need to do is wipe daily, and it will never build up again! Good luck, sending my best wishes on getting your pet's eyes back into perfect shape!

Never use the same piece of cloth on both eyes, massive cross infection risk.

Lol, I know, some dogs fight you tooth and nail (literally)! You may just need to get off what you can with a towel and move up to more intense boogie management after that. BTW, love your handle, @parlezvouscrochet! 😍
